Well, I think you've found the fault anyway, but code 46 is typical of this failure. I've not heard of the regulator/rectifier unit itself failing, it's always the terminals, so the unit should be fine to use if you can securely remake the connections. Otherwise go for Bernard's FZ600 solution.
