The battery isn't under the tank.... unless they have changed the design recently. The battery is under the seat and it's a couple of bolts to remove it, but I can't see why you would need to remove it.

The tank removal, it's a bit of a pain yes, the side panels (grey bits with the indicators) need removing, then the scoops (the grey bits on the side of the bike) need to come off to expose the two long bolts that hold the tank in place.
Under the seat there is a metal bracket that has two bolts, that need to come off, then the tank will lift a small way. You need to get your hands under and disconnect the fuel clip and take the breather pipes off, then you can remove the tank. BEWARE it is heavy and difficult to hold properly when it is full of fuel, it could be 23Kg in weight if it's full.
The workshop manual shows the full and correct procedure for tank removal.
