(BTW Congrats on the news about the Dakar `13 and the news on the sale of your 2 bikes - that Heroes Tenere was my drool bike when i first started riding back in 2009/2010)

On another note, how easy is it to fit a 12v adapter for a 2nd hand car GPS system that I`ve acquired for nowt? Considering my `amazing`(ahem...) technical skills is it something anyone can provide pointers to/pics etc? Do`s & Donts?

Hi there mate. I have put a female socket in one of the small covers behind the indicator panel at the front. This is supplied by a fuse which is located in the pocket that is for the tool pouch (which I have removed, the tools that is!). The fuse is supplied by a relay which is activated by the back light circuit. This means that I have just one extra connector to the positive and negative terminals on the battery. The relay actually supplies three other fuses which are for my heated grips, heated jacket and a small LED circuit that monitorsd the battery power output. Check out Gammatronix.
My GPS is powered by the circuit behind the black cover underneath the dash. If you remove this you will see a green terminal which is not connected to anything. This becomes live when you turn on the ignition, which in turn activates my GPS.

The reason for having the fuses supplied by a relay is so that none of the extra 'appliances' can be left on accidentally.
When I am camping and need to blow up my airbed I can put the switch into sidelight position and this will then activate the circuit for the cigarette lighter socket and hence my small compressor. If the battery runs down the LED will go orange at which point I start the engine.
Sorry no pics as my bike is kept elsewhere, but I'm getting it out tomorrow so I'll get some pics and post here on Sunday evening when I get back.
