Early impressions...
Well, Ive had them on the bike for a month now and done about 400 miles (650Km) and initial thoughts are excellent.
As youd expect, being road biased the grip and handling have improved massively. The flighty front end has gone, lean angles have improved, but most noticeable is how neutral the tyres are. Every movement is smooth and progressive with good levels of feedback, including the braking. They are superb in the dry and far better than the Tourances ever were in the wet (which it has mostly been recently) and on surface undulations/white lines (always the Tourances weak point in my eyes). Also better than BT45s on the road based on previous experience.
I didnt think theyd be much good off road, but even there Ive been a little surprised! Yes, they are useless in anything slightly muddy and wet, however on gravel and un-surfaced forestry tracks they are not better or worse than the Tourance. Id conclude that much of the knobbly appearance of the Tourance is in order to look the part, neither this or the TR91 has any self-cleaning ability, the TR91 just doesnt look as manly! But the price you pay for knobbly looks is poorer road manners.
All in all Id say the TR91 appears to be superb choice for someone who wants to push their bike on the road and maybe do some light off-roading on forestry tracks and such like in the dry(!) summer months. The Tourance isnt a bad tyre I might add, its just way more compromised. Personally Id either go for a TR91 or a TKC depending on use, I wouldnt bother with an in-betweeny tyre again, but each to their own
(Obviously cant comment on wear yet!)
Hope this helps?
