rednax - sorry to hear that this issue has messed up your trip plans.
This connector is known to be troublesome and from new I stripped mine to make sure it was well connected and coated in top quality ACF50 and have not had a single issue in 2.5k miles. The cush drives seem to be made of soft cheese and fail early, so there's a known fix to wedge some old inner tube material in with each drive rubber. You should be able to get new cush drives under warranty, so keep those fresh as a spare set and make the repair.
Keep an eye on the connector as you travel if you're worried about it - it's easy to get to - and treat yourself to some sort of trip.
Good luck and keep the faith - not everything's perfect, but the Tenere's pretty close..
