Funnily enough, you'll get a pretty one-sided view on this forum
As mentioned by some others, the XT service intervals are higher. But I think, contrary to what people will say, the build quality (paint, electrics etc) is poorer.
I think the KTM is more "desirable", so insurance is going to be higher and it's more likely to get nicked.
Riding an XT, you'll be mocked by the KTM crowd, but it feels quite good to beat one around a corner.
I'd say test ride both, get an insurance quote for both, and make your mind up that way.
My feeling is that if you do a fair amount of miles, the XT would be the rational choice, but who buys bikes with their head anyway?
