         No reason at all, just simplicity really - easier and more straightforward to list one method of connectivity. Personally, I have an auxiluary circuit that provides power to the lighting circuit so it gets a bit complicated ( a relay providing power to another realy), but it does mean I only have one feed coming from the battery, so it looks less complex, if you get what I mean!
         
        
 For Driving lights (main beam) then I have a scotch clip on the main beam wire, to the overide switch, then to pin 86 as you have sugested. for fog or daylight running lights then you could use;
         
        
 The GPS feed,
        
 Sidelights,
        
 brake light feed (the advantage is that you can intercept the feed without breaking into the wires),
        
 any other point where you get +12-14v with the ignition on.
