       Rear Indicator Housings

Guys, I was cleaning the bike today after yesterdays jaunt into Scotlandshire and I noticed something a bit odd.
The inside of the indicator lenses were a little blackened, whan I took them apart they had water, muck, salt and general crap inside them. On one of the reflectors it has taken a small amount of the silver pait off, but around the edge, not on the reflector so no problem (I've seen another post where this has gone completely). I gave it a clean, a good blast of air and dried it all out. I was going to run a small bean of silicon around the lens to stop any further ingress, but the recess is so narrow it's not really possible, so I ran a bead of grease around it and put it all back together, wiped the excess off and all tickety boo again. You might want to take a look before the connectors inside get corroded - only takes a minute with a small philips screwdriver - the one in the toolkit doesn't fit! What use is the toolkit I ask ????? :sleep01: |

Yep , mine was the same filling up with muddy water after a trail ride ! I tried a smear of grease around the lens but it made no difference to mine , the solution I used was to silicon the wires where they entered the indicator .
The water etc thrown up by the rear wheel was running along the cable and into the indicator that way - all ok now . |

Hmm, there was more crap around the edge of the lens, but I think I'll follow your lead and seal the wires too. Looking at it. it's a bizare design - for a trail bike!

Just a thought, I wonder if the warranty would cover that. If so, perhaps getting the new ones first, then seal them around the edges? Just an idea. Mind you, I called and asked if they replace my rusty chain and brake discs, and they said no, this is a wear and tear thing. But signals should be a "wear and tear" thing, right?

Yep - perfectly positioned to fill up with cr@p from the rear wheel in the wet !
Mine were full of what can only be described as sand and there was not enough gap for that to have got between the lens and casing . |

Will definatly check mine then. Sometimes get condensensation in mine so must be plenty of crud in them as well given the conditions on the roads this winter.

My rear indicators are getting replaced under warranty. Most of the silver coating has now come off the reflectors leaving the white plastic underneath.
