Any idea what plugs in to this?

Hi guys, I have received an "outsider's" request through the "Contact Us" email from a German guy who has a Tenere and wants to fit a gps, he sent me a pic showing a plug connector any idea what it is?

In the front of my new Tenere I can find a "free" plug.
I would like to connect my GPS there.
You have any idea what kind of connector I need to use the plug?

By the way - Yamaha Germany knows nothing aboutthis part.

Are you talking about this (scroll down to my third post on the page)?

Its the 'options' connector wired into the indicator circuit (I think) on a 10A fuse and is generally considered a safe place to wire a GPS to.

I've been using my Garmin for 6 months now, powered up from this socket with no problems at all...

Hi Andy12, does it shut off the power supply to the GPS when you shut off the bike? I read somewhere that the plug was supposed to be for plugging into some computer at dealership for complete diagnostic of the bike. No?

This supply is switched with the ignition, so yes it turns off when you switch the bike off.

It's not the Diag connector, that was some incorrect info. The Diag connector is under the seat.

The circuit that the connector is on has a 10A fuse but there is already close to 5A worth of load on there (if all the lights are on at the same time). so as long as when you connect to the connector draws less than 5A you will be ok (fit an in-line 5A fuse just to be on the safe side).

It's on the parking light circuit, so if you turn the parking lights on it is powered.

I think that NickW909 is right. If this was a diag connector, then it shouldn’t had any voltage on it, when you turn the key into the ON position.

Also having the diag connector under the cover of the front light its….. DUCATI’s engineering…not YAMAHA’s.
:laughing7:

Seriously, i have connected a car-cigarette plug on it , which is fixed on the handlebar, from where I power up my Garmin etrex GPS from day one. Been traveling with the GPS on for more than 4 hours continuously, most of the time off –road with a lot of bumps and vibration, and over 35-40 degrees C (Ahhhhhh….. summer time in Greece:campfire:) and had absolutely zero problems…….
