Because it is shorter, it tucks up very neatly against the frame, and will mount directly to the subframe, although this may not work with the standard rear tail-light unit of course.

It is very well made, however it is also VERY loud, so I will be adding the dB killer - for scrutineering at least x

If you don't mind my asking, what positive points you see in OTR single can which costs way more than say x-racing single can?

Hi Jo' - I'm not familiar with the X-Racing can (quick google) ok, now I am: http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=PqYA5Y9

(said in a Neo "whoa - I know kung fu!" stylee)

I haven't seen the X-racing one in the metal, but looking at the photos in the link above, I'd say the OTR looks (is) much better made, especially in titanium x

In fact he logo on the X-Racing can is enough to make me stump up the extra cash!

That said, objectively, there isn't much of a difference if you compare it to the standard length OTR can - although the mounting position of the X-Racing can looks to be even more out of line/place? I'm not sure about the X-Racing mounting bracket either - looks a bit of an afterthought?

On the plus side, I guess if you intend to run luggage as well, then it looks like the X-Racing pipe still allows the original pannier frame locations to be used? And the boxes will cover up the nasty logo and shiny stainless steel straps x

Ok, so I'm a tart (and a snob) when it comes to stuff like that - but the bottom line is I went for the OTR can as a) they would customise it to my specification (shorter, no cat) and b) I'm getting my front suspension through OTR too, and trust that their exhaust will perform the way they discribe...

(oh, and c) I wasn't aware there was an alternative until you mentioned X-Racing! x)

Thanks JMo. Here it is with more discussions: http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=10953

I actually was at OTR last October and had their single can tried on to see if my stock pannier rack would fit, it seemed so. I also personally hand-lifted both stock and OTR's cans, and the OTR's is significantly lighter, though I don't know by how much. Yet, if I recall correctly, it was initially priced in the area of EUR 600, but suddenly they upped it by a third, and I don't know why. But all in all, you are right, it's really well made, and it sounds awesome. As to the x-racing, I can only judge by the picture and I don't know what it sounds like (though I heard on youtube on different bikes, not too impressive mind you).

I am still on the fence as a) I want single can, and b) there are only these two available. Also, I am unsure of how gas consumption increase would alter the tank mileage.
Good luck with your mods, and keep the info and pics coming.

X-Racing...

Looking at your link above (and the new pictures), maybe it's worth a go? - although their logo is only slightly nicer now x They also sound like a good bunch of guys on their website - and for €300 you can't really go wrong? You can always Ebay it or sell it on here if you really don't get on with it?

As you say, there is a considerable difference in price between the X-Racing and the OTR system. However, I would say I am very pleased with the quality (and customer relations) I've had from OTR, so would always champion their products...

Yeah, Torsten is a good guy whom I met in person. He's a rider himself, self-made biz man, a one-man show but still cranks out quality stuff.

If possible would love to hear the sound of the pipe, a sound file would be great, but of course not to distract you from your project.

Hee hee - I would, but it's so loud it just broke my microphone... x

I also met him on the Tuareg Rally last year (2008 edition) - he was on his XT660R Rally bike - some very nice mods there!

Who'd have thought that 12 months later I'd be building a Yamaha rather than riding my Honda?!
