Ok, so collecting a standard barrel tonight...that was quick work:eusa_dance:thank you Shoemrich!
My machine shop have just quoted me 45+vat to bore it to match a JE 103mm piston. Very reasonable, a good guys too......and one of them has an XT600 bored out to 660!!! So now to buy a piston, pin and circlips, and I suppose a new small end bearing? (Is that necessary?) I am looking at a JE 103mm 11:1..... I wonder if my bike would run ok on a 12.5:1, using 97ron? Price is around $180 plus carriage. Plus the gaskets etc. I reckon a total project budget of 350-375 including the spare barrel, oil etc. I don't think that is not too much moolah. What do you guys think? For a 3 hp and 3 ft/lbs torque gain through the rev range.? Am I totally racingmad? Now I am thinking of getting the head done...Any one got a spare head???? |

You have to get the cylinder re-plated after the re-bore. I would buy a CP piston if I was to do it again, 99% of the piston kits come complete & there is no small end pin on the XT motor, all the rings need to be matched to each cylinder, the small end pin also need to be checked for sizing. The highest you can go is 11.5:1 on 97 Ron depending on your altitude & cam profile. We already have a XT with a 12.5:1 piston kit hiding in the back stages.:wow: |
[quote=Kev;136521]I think it is time you make your own big bore post so we don't hijack this one anymore.
Sorry Kev...you know what, I was thinking that too, no probs...Thread Now Moved to....... XTR area!! |
