The rack was installed today, fitted right on. They use the holes on the subframe and on the passenger pegs, and one extra on the frame in front(see piccies). Also fitted the adapters, needed for the alu panniers, so the panniers fitted right on, nice and tight! I think it looks great, although I'll change the right pannier(37lt) for a 45lt pannier(like the one on the left). I had two different panniers because of my former bike, the XT600E, which had only one rearpipe. As you all know, the 660's got two rear pipes! Enjoy the piccies! I'll let y'all know how it handles with the panniers and if the fuelconsumption changes. Greetz, Hans.

Thanx Hans,
I'l still try to change/fit the rack I originally bought for the xt660x. If I don't succeed the rack above will be my first choice. |

Tricky, you get to hear of loads of stories involving supply issues, and to average yours out, I had my order from Motobins early! It's swings and roundabouts really.... It was for a set of H&B Standard Alu boxes and rails for my R1200GSA. Now that the rails are available for the Tenere, I'll make a purchase and then decide what size box to buy. I'll only need one as the GS use two different size units due to the exhaust arrangement. The Tenere is symetrical so I can pair them up to suit. I reckon the thirty (odd) litre box will do as I'll only be solo when away on the Tenere. Timpo. |

Tricky, do I understand you are using the off-the road frame with H&B boxes? Are they pretty much the same design ?

Attention, Tenere-riders! I got the H&B rack last week, like I posted before. Fits like a glove, but attention: take care of your chain slack! The weight of the rack&panniers, myself(98kg's!) and the springs in its original setting(very soft!) will tighten the chain dangerously! Way to go is, harden the springs(front and back), and loosen the chain a bit(it should have a slack of about 50-60mm, the bike resting on its side-stand, no rider on). Maybe I'll change the springs front&back for progressive springs. Greetz, Hans.
P.s.: the harder setting will get you an even better handling onroad, and it was already fine! Offroad it won't, I guess. |
