I got the SW Motech Trax, very impressive...both build quality and price

scottnet 26-08-08 12:54

Thanks, What is the quality of the frame , so besides for the locks do you think they would survive some off roading ?

Hepco and becker

The Hepco and Becker frames are good and sturdy, and would be okay in a spill off road. That said, I'm still waiting for mine, and I ordered them months ago! Who are you getting them from? Have they given you a delivery date? :BangHead:

scottnet 27-08-08 15:43

I spoke to Motobins ( http://www.motobins.co.uk/ ) the other day and they say the frames for new XTZ will only be available in 6 months time. I believe they are the only distributor in the UK so chances are whoever you ordered from are going through them.

.......er No they are not, check out Metal Mule as I have got some on my Z'ed now and it was the prototype. They should be in production by now. Cheers SteveD

Hepco and Becker

I too thought Motobins was the only importer, I last heard from them six weeks ago:

Hello Doug

Sorry I have spoken to Hepco & Becker again and they tell me these are still in production and will be another 4 - 5 weeks but possibly longer.

Regards from Damien

Moto-Bins Online

So, we're certainly into "possibly longer", aren't we? :sad7:

SteveD, I was aware that Metal Mule were doing some but the reference to Motobins were as the agents for H&B systems. I am interested in the Metal Mule but the price seems over the top but I will speak to them.

Thanks

The Hepco&Becker pannierrack has arrived yesterday and will be installed next saturday(again due to a very busy workshop). As soon as it's installed I'll post some pics of it with and without the panniers(alu standards). Greetz, Hans.

dallas 27-09-08 14:00

The rack was installed today, fitted right on. They use the holes on the subframe and on the passenger pegs, and one extra on the frame in front(see piccies). Also fitted the adapters, needed for the alu panniers, so the panniers fitted right on, nice and tight! I think it looks great, although I'll change the right pannier(37lt) for a 45lt pannier(like the one on the left). I had two different panniers because of my former bike, the XT600E, which had only one rearpipe. As you all know, the 660's got two rear pipes! Enjoy the piccies! I'll let y'all know how it handles with the panniers and if the fuelconsumption changes. Greetz, Hans.

Thanx Hans,

I'l still try to change/fit the rack I originally bought for the xt660x. If I don't succeed the rack above will be my first choice.

Tricky, you get to hear of loads of stories involving supply issues, and to average yours out, I had my order from Motobins early! It's swings and roundabouts really....
It was for a set of H&B Standard Alu boxes and rails for my R1200GSA.

Now that the rails are available for the Tenere, I'll make a purchase and then decide what size box to buy. I'll only need one as the GS use two different size units due to the exhaust arrangement. The Tenere is symetrical so I can pair them up to suit.
I reckon the thirty (odd) litre box will do as I'll only be solo when away on the Tenere.

Timpo.

aye its the 30 litre hepco and becker boxes ive got thay fit the tenere well and hold all i need for a week away but had the h&b pannier rails on order from motobins for weeks it was not there fault the factory kept giving different supply dates so had to cancel the order and phone off-the-road who had them in stock, by the way bought the boxes from motobins a few years ago with no problems , one more thing the off-the-road rails are far better made than the hepco and becker rails

scottnet 02-10-08 10:13

Tricky, do I understand you are using the off-the road frame with H&B boxes? Are they pretty much the same design ?

aye thats right off-the-road frames h&b boxes took all the mounting frame work of the h&B boxes thay must weight a couple of kilos each took the locks of as well and replaced with hasp and staples and a small padlock made up some new brackets and bolted the whole lot together works a treat

dallas 04-10-08 16:56

Attention, Tenere-riders! I got the H&B rack last week, like I posted before. Fits like a glove, but attention: take care of your chain slack! The weight of the rack&panniers, myself(98kg's!) and the springs in its original setting(very soft!) will tighten the chain dangerously! Way to go is, harden the springs(front and back), and loosen the chain a bit(it should have a slack of about 50-60mm, the bike resting on its side-stand, no rider on). Maybe I'll change the springs front&back for progressive springs. Greetz, Hans.

P.s.: the harder setting will get you an even better handling onroad, and it was already fine! Offroad it won't, I guess.
