Accessories for the new Tenere

Don't know if anyone else has seen this yet, they have:

Akrapovic can for 1099 Euros, but though there is a pic its hard to see if it is a single or twin pipe.

Center stand for 159 Euros.

A nice looking aluminium water pump protector for 39 Euros.

Two types of tank bag but no prices and say they will have shortly, a very strong and reliable luggage rack, Aluminium panniers, high engine guard, higher front fender

http://www.off-the-road.de/799.html?&L=1

Its nice to see that the accessory manufacturers are more successful at producing products for the bike, than Yamaha are at getting the bike out there.
Personally I'm off to check the bank balance now.

dallas 08-07-08 04:29

I saw the Akra's at my dealer last saturday and they're twin pipes: lookin'good but (I think) too expensive! I got the Yamaha alu bashplate and centrestand(comin'friday), handguards, handlebar risers(30mm) and ordered a Hepco&Becker pannier rack(delivery aug/sept). Greetz, Hans.

CaptMoto 08-07-08 11:30

Just hang in there people before spending a lot of money on Akraps, because shortly :CCC: will be doing their own cans for these bikes.

word!

dallas 11-07-08 21:36

I got the centrestand and handlebar risers(30mm) today. The centrestand fits well and handling is easy; I think it's useful part for maintenance of the chain and rearwheel, although it adds some x-tra weight. The handlebar risers are super: more relaxed riding and less strain on neck&shoulders, and better pose when riding standing. Also fitted an oiltemperature gauge(instead of the oil dipstick, the RR10, ordered at www.kedo.com), to check the temp and knowing when the Tenere is warmed up enough(80 degrees Celsius). On pipes: Leovince now also have a system for the new Tenere, but half of the price of the Akra's. But now it's weekend and what better way to spend it then to ride the Tenere and that with a big smile!! Greetz, Hans.

HansP 15-07-08 13:44

Did you have to fit longer throttle-brake-clutch cables when mounting the risers or are they "plug 'n play"?

Molgan 15-07-08 14:35

Don't know if this has been posted, but OTR have a Tener section now. Not much yet (hand guards, tank bags, water pump protector and some more), but they promises to fill it up asap.

http://www.off-the-road.de/799.html?&L=1

On a related note: Have anyone come up with an idea on how to fit aftermarket mufflers on the Tener? Had planned to mount 2 of these to keep the look of the original:

http://www.off-the-road.de/uploads/p...neu_big_01.jpg

Have no idea how to fit the pipes, and still be able to have the panniers, without having to totally modify the rear. Don't want to cut anything since it drops the value of the bike when, or if, I sell it.

Maybe I just have to wait for Ten-specific mufflers are out grmbl..

Edit: Does this look extremely weird? (2 to 1 muffler)

dallas 15-07-08 19:29

No, you can use the original cables, no problem. Greetz, Hans.

Greetings from Greece.:039:
I am another happy Tenere owner (Desert Khaki) with 750 Klm :headbang:

Does anyone of you guys out there had already fitted a 12V power supply socket ,in order to supply a GPS?
I do not have the manual yet (Yamaha Greece said its been translated) so I dont know the exact cabling of the machine.

Thanks and ride safe

Oiltemperature gauge, RR10( www.kedo.com), installed instead of the oil dipstick. To monitor the oil temperature and knowing when the engine has warmed up enough. Greetz, Hans.

OK, good call Tony.
I took a look at this earlier and sure enough, there is a switched (ignition on) 12v supply plug connector in the centre of the fairing framework.
Now what we need to find is the other part of the connector, to make the connection perfect.
Just ramming in the bare copper strands from the GPS Power Lead is not the best way to ensure a uninterupted supply.
So, if there is any electrickery specialists on here, or somebody who'll know somebody who'll know, please give me a holler.........

I have tracked down some connectors for the O2 Sensor, maybe they use the same companies products.

Take some close up, detailed photos and I'll see what I can do.

Or, here's a link to the O2 sensor connector details:

It is a small black connector with a brown (+) and a black (-) cable.
I have pics with my connection, i can post them if you like.Just make sure to install a long enough cable , in order not to obstruct the handlebar

No, they are Hella plugs, same as you can plug into BMW GS Aux Socket.
We are talking about a small connector that the loom cable is terminated at. This needs a connector that will be soldered/crimped to your GPS lead. Nick W909 is very close with the item on his link.
I might try a specialist auto elec to see if he can identify the connector.

I just visited my dealer and they told me Leovince has an exhaust system out for the new Tenere. It's an oval slip-on system, now available for about 555, euro's. More info on www.leovince.com also look at the enclosed pic. Also enclosed a pic of the Yamaha original handguards with deflectors that'll be installed tomorrow. Greetz, Hans.

Sweet, good news!

dallas 19-07-08 17:01

Here some pics I took today, after the installation of the handguards&deflectors(they do a good job!). Greetz, Hans.

By the way, I ordered the Leovince slip-on exhaust system, delivery next week.

Its a touratech plate, original for the 1150GS.

Just a heads up about the handlebar: It's weak. Had to replace mine today since it bent from a minor impact. Get yourself a proper conical alu bar asap since it also helps minimizing the vibrations you get with the original bar.

Titbird 25-07-08 18:54

I got the engine bars and left the plastic bashplate as it is. It looks quite well and it stong enough for mild offroading, I think.

The pannier rack looks solid(and heavy?)! The panniers are SW-Motech I believe? Can H&B panniers be fitted on these racks? My H&B pannier rack will arrive next month, I'll post some pics as soon as I got them. Greetz, Hans.

Hey Dallas, what is the weight of the handgurds? My handlebar had to be replaced, but the endweights don't fit since its thread is a bit weird, M16x1.5, and I can't find the tool to create the correct threads inside the bar. The weights are 450g a piece and without them the handlebar vibrates like crazy. So I'm curious, what's the weight of the handguards, and do they use the thread of the original handlebar?

dallas 28-07-08 19:32

They weigh not that much, although they're rocksolid. In the kit new(smaller) endweights were included, to install instead of the original endweights. There's slighlty more vibe in the handlebar, but nothing to worry about. I don't know if it will fit on aftermarket bars, but if it has the same diameter I think they'll fit. Greetz, Hans.

Ok, thx for the info.

steveD 28-07-08 22:42

Talked to Metal Mule this morning and it sounds as though they have got quite a range of accessories now made for the Tenere. I have said that they can keep my bike for another couple of weeks as I'm still very busy. After that I hope to get up and down the country and will certainly promote their products especially as he mentioned that he may leave some of them on! (I'm gonna work on them leaving ALL of the mods on!) Check out their web site, he said pics will soon be posted.
The lowering link will set the back end down by about half an inch, they did do another that dropped it by an inch but were concerned about travel at the back end. Hope this info is of help.
Cheers Steve

steveD 28-07-08 23:05

PS forgot to mention, they also intend to make a radiator cover which will fit over the existing plastic one.

Molgan 29-07-08 09:46

The hugger and flip windshield will be interesting to see.

Old Git Ray 29-07-08 22:22

How much !!!

I just checked out MetalMule's site.

Have I got it wrong but for a 22 liter top box and 2 x 31 liter panniers and fittings (84 Liter total) the total is 1550

For the comparable Yamaha originals, 3 x 30 liters, it is 780.

I know some people think the Yam ones are expensive but that is almost twice the price.

Twice the price :googly[1]:, are they made of Titanium and is the frame goldplated?

steveD 30-07-08 09:19

I have been speaking directly to the main man at Metal Mule and Yes you are wrong. He has not as yet brought out an official price list for the parts for the new Tenere and he quoted me at just over a grand for the pannier kit. It would also be advisable to check out the abservations about the Yamaha parts as well.

Timpo 01-08-08 21:47

Alternative handguards - Acerbis Multiplo T.

OK, at last, some success......
I managed to fit a pair of Acerbis Multiplo T handguards tonight.
The only stumbling block was having to drill up the bars to enable the expanding bar-end plug to go all the way home. You'll need a 13.5mm drill bit. The material cut very easily so a battery drill was sufficient.
Put all the screws in the assembly before you tighten anything of them up.
Watch the front brake pipe banjo bolt, it may need turning up a bit to clear the alloy bar on the righthand side. Just slacked the banjo bolt enough to turn it, this will prevent air entering the brake system.
I've decided to bin the bar-end weights, whats a bit of vibration amongst friends.....
All in all I'm please with the look and protection offered by these handguards. They should save the levers when (not if!) I fall off.......:laughing7:

Next job is to fit Pirelli MT21 tyres and rimlocks.

Timpo.

Thank God for that. I know the Yam ones are correct, thats what it has just cost me for the full set and that is what is quoted on the Yam web site.

Metal Mule's web site is sure confusing though.....Panniers: 1199 (inc)
https://www.metalmule.com/shop-onlin...ategory_id,50/

And the top box without fitting kit.....350 (inc)
https://www.metalmule.com/component/...,23/Itemid,26/

Could he be quoting you pre VAT prices ??? (1020 for the pannier kit)

scottnet 29-08-08 11:54

Did anyone perhaps identify the part number of the GPS connector plug, I suspect Maplins in the UK may have such a thing ?

Hi SteveD

I already had Metal Mule panniers so have fitted the new rack. Unlike other racks it fits on top of the hand rails. Its really solid and has stopped the number plate vibration. The boxes are pricy but I have found them as tough as hell.

I was not able to get the sump guard and bar fitted from Yamaha so have one on order from Metal Mule.

I will try to get pictures in the next few days.
