there is a ton of potential on these motors from mild to wild on small cc size..

here is a 700(686 cc) we did for a customer, using Cuervo racing +1 mm ported head 14:1 compression, drag pipes, 54 mm throttle body and .500 lift cam...
a far cry from what you guys are building them for though and the powerband needed for this application as well

its all necessary for power, on a .400 lift camshaft you will be restricted to around 65 hp even on a ported head.., just wont allow enoug air in.. weve been debating doing a camshaft similar to our HDD5050 grind but in a more moderate .445 range on the intake side

On the Conversion I am working on, I am looking at not losing any torque low/mid rpm (note the standard Raptor is well down on a XT in torque)

Fitting a HC2 to a XT, loses bottom end power and torque. Big Bore

I personally think that the Big Bore is the way forward....for CHEAP power and torque gains throughout the rpm range.

But is a Big Bore reliable?

..but Strokers too....for development reasons

Steve_athens 08-09-10 12:42

When i had an xt686 with cp piston and stage 3 reprofiled xt cam i had a lot more torque with 12:1 compression than the raptor, HP was 65-67 on the wheel and max torque:75!

Kev 08-09-10 13:01

Steve was that 75nm or 75 ft/lbs of torque?

Steve_athens 08-09-10 15:37

its 75nm of torque on the dyno,i calculated it in ft/lbs its 54.5 about the same with the 80hp raptor torque but mine had less compression, smaller TB,and less lift cam

it really depends on what you consider "more" torque///

off idle and low rpm torque is good for cruising but what you really want for a fast bike is a broad and flat torque curve that carries into the upper rpm's

calculate the torque output by averaging the torque number at 3k,4k,5k,6k,7k, rpm's

some peak torque is lost when opening up the top end but well worth the trade off

that perticular build is ment to rev high and pull hard on the higher rpm, we use in at the dunes Hill racing approx 600-700 ft length.. in its application we only use 6000 rpm and up

Hi all...
Just back from the Dyno Center....

My -04 XTR with ECU -00 has the following mods:
PCIII
K&N air filter
DNA2
Removed snorkel
GPR cans with baffel in
-1 front sprocket

The result was a little bit lower than expected but it all depending how the Dyno is calibrated....
But the AF value is set to 13,8 on throttle position lower than 20% and rpm less than 4000. Just to get increased MPG..
Otherwise AF is set to 13,2.

Even though the AIS was plugged it back fired quite a LOT !! But it sound SO good..

I hope I can take it for a test ride this weekend.....

Kev 08-04-11 23:24

Nice work, my XT's A/F ratio is set to 13.6:1 from 0 to 5% throttle openings across the rev range as 13.2:1 is to rich for the XT at part throttle openings.

The reason is 13.2:1 is to rich that low down Yamaha built an accelerator pump action into the mapping & it dumps a whole lot of fuel into the cylinder under sudden acceleration & at 13.2:1 it is to rich to burn off the fuel at low rpms.

Your 2004 00 ECU is a twin spart ECU & will still back fire a little even with the AIS blocked off.

Your bike should be nice & smooth now.

cage 10-04-11 16:40

OK, but have to ask....

Twin spark (I guess youre meening spark) ECU?? Meening what??

And yes there is some backfiring still, even if AIS is plugged... But I actually like it!!

Kev 10-04-11 23:54

Twin spark means the ignition fires every 360 degrees of crank rotation, single spark it fires every 720 degrees.

So a twin spark motor fires twice for every one power stroke of the crankshaft.

raczek 04-07-11 00:07

XTX 08'
Only short slip'on WRP exhaust
no other mods

Very nice.:bbq[1]:

I was also on the dyno the other day with my SMR, got some base runs before I start to mod my bike. The KTM has unreal HP & torque for a motard which is similar in weight to the XTX.

That is insane numbers :O Is it a 950 SMR?

Snowman 12-08-11 21:01

Here is my graph for the dyno of my XT660R -08 with 15000km on the speedo.
Equiped with
-Powercommander 3
-Metalmule exhaust
-DNA stage 1
-OTR air box side with drilled holes

But i had hoped for more :(
What do you guys think? Does it look okey?

Fit a DNA stage 2 air filter if you are looking for more HP & Torque.

Thanks for the reply Kev.
But apart from that my dynorun looks okey?

Im a bit suprised that the hp curve is almost linear. Also that the torque curve makes a small dip just before 3000 and then goes up and then down abit as the RPM increases.

Looks good to me, the A/F ratio is the main thing I look at.

I now have my KTM at 124 rear wheel HP & will be back on the dyno on Wednesday with my new air box mods & am hoping for 130 rear wheel HP with around 80 ft/lbs of torque.

Ernesto 23-04-12 09:51

Hello. I was on the dyno th other day making a custom fuel map for my XT 660 R 04 with 16.000km.
My set up is Metal Mule exhaust, BMC filter, snorkel removed, PCIII and no AIS.

Result: 50,1hp, 65,4Nm torque and 45,8hp at the wheel.

Kev 23-04-12 11:38

Thanks for sharing, I was on the Dyno myself today.

Ernesto 23-04-12 12:41

Hi Kev. I saw that Snowman with almost the same set up as mine has 5hp less than my XT. Do you know why?

Snowman do you have 45hp at the wheel or at the clutch?

Kev 23-04-12 13:19

Every Dyno reads slightly different so you can never compare peak HP & Torque readings, a true comparison is to test both the bikes on the same Dyno one after each other.

I never really look at the over all HP I look at the gains between the before & after runs, this is the true gain.

Ernesto 24-04-12 11:18

I didnt do a before run, so... I dont know the gains but Im happy with my 50hp.

But Im not happy enough because the bike makes explosions with even fire in the exhaust when I close the thortle, people gets scary and cops get angry. We fixed a bit this problem on the dyno ride but...

I know that the XT 04 has some kind of dual spark ECU, but, is there any way to fix this??

Thanks!

Ernesto 24-04-12 23:30

Here is my A/F ratio:

What do you think?

Kev 24-04-12 23:56

Was the map built by hand?

You want the A/F ratio as close to 13.2:1, the map below was built using Dynojets Tunelink software, look at the A/F ratio is is nice & stable, yours seems all over the place. You would also get more HP & torque if the A/F ratio is around 13.2:1 on full power runs, it is OK to map to 13.6:1 at part throttle openings for better fuel consumption but no good for full power runs. Did you tell the Dyno tuner what you wanted before he tuned your bike?

If you want to get rid of the popping noise block off your AIS pipe.

http://fotos.miarroba.es/fo/6fda/2A4...1E4F971AB9.jpg

Ernesto 25-04-12 10:51

Your A/F ratio is flat, mine seems a Tour de France stage. The map was made by hand, we spend 4 hours working on it because the bike was running at 19,8 A/F ratio. The tuner said to me that I must try this map and give him a feedback, this afternoon I come back to the workshop and explain him my impresions.

Kev, I have my AIS removed, and bloket with a blanket in the head, a plug in the airbox and disconnecter the blue connector.

If finally I have my back fire problem solved I pay all of you a Paella!!

Thanks mates!

Ernesto 25-04-12 10:55

Kev, can I take your A/F ratio graf as a reference to show it to the tuner?

Looking at my graf, I think that maybe my bike is running too lean between 2500rpm to 3250rpm. And possibly this makes it poping. I am right?

Kev 25-04-12 14:27

Your A/F ratio is not good below 4250rpm, it is to lean then to rich.

The best I have found is to tune for 13.6:1 below 4250rpm & 13.2:1 above 4500rpm. I tune for 13.2:1 for 100% throttle runs, no problem using the graph as a guide line. The best way to tune a bike with a power commander is with Tune Link software it will get you map almost 100% perfect I never build map by hand anymore.

Ernesto 04-05-12 09:37

Hello Kev, hello mates. Im back with my fuelling issues, Ive been riding my XT and didnt like how it runs, so last wednesday I cameback to the dyno.

We were doing things wrong, the dyno tuner puts the lambda sensor almost in the end of the exhaust because it is a 04 without lambda sensor, but my MM 2 into 1 has a plug in the headers, when we realise that, we changed the lambda sensor and put it into the headers. He said that maybe there were no major changes but, surprise! while the lambda in the end of the exhaust reads 17:1, in the headers it was reading 13:1... fuuuuuck! he said Im stupid! puts the map all back to zero and start again...

Now I have a better A/F ratio graph, (we gained even 1hp more, 51hp) but we have to keep working because I stil have that annoying backfires...:confused5:

I think that the more we rich the mixture the less backfires happen, but if I make it to rich the bike runs bad... we wil see

Saludos!

Ernesto 04-05-12 17:48

Next dyno date, on monday morning. Ill post the results!

Kev 05-05-12 01:29

Great:thumbsup[1]:

Ernesto 16-05-12 12:50

Conclusion: we made a new map much leaner than the old one and bike goes better now. It still has a bit of back firing when I drop a gear or two and it revs high, but now it is ok for me.

Now time to ride and enjoy.

Kev and kris007 if you come to Spain Ill pay you some beers! Thanks!

waynovetten 16-05-12 21:09

We have a Spanish friend come to stay with us for 2 weeks stopped 2 years!! a while back, just down the road from you in Alzira,we'll be there for the GP at the end of the year.

Ernesto 17-05-12 10:02

Hello, I live in a small town ten kilometres close to Alzira and my brother lives in London since 2009. Maybe we can do a Spain-England meeting for the GP! with paella of course...
