I would like to have a small meet up before the actual event, first or second week in March for a recce and check the pubs! If anyone can make it I'm sure we can get the bunkhouse or just camp. Will keep posting to see if anyone can get there, any input will be helpful. Cheers Steve |

I think it's a great idea and i have read those former Lakeland reports too, hoping to show up there too one day. Both the old and new location would be within a one-day-drive distance for me.
However... Guess it will not happen, as may is impossible for me to take days off at my work. May always is the power-plants annual stop, no leaves allowed in that month. Pity... Have fun guys! And make some nice pics! |
Room for one in the bunk?
1 Attachment(s)
Just found this thread.
Is there room for one in the bunk? Me and me missus stayed at Platts Farm last spring for the weekend. We were in our Bongo campervan. Had a day of rain but it didn't really matter as there is plenty of cover. Walking distance to the village and close to the prom (with bar). I plan to exit work early afternoon and get to the Wales Friday evening and return Sunday am. Not met any of the forum before (that I know of) so will be good to chat to some fellow XT'er's. Assuming I don't break myself at the previous weekends Taffy Dakar, I hope to see you in May. I'm up for trails or road ride outs. Cheers Simon |

Could only attach 1 pic in previous post so here's another one.

Hi srb and welcome. I'm afraid that due to complacency we have lucked out on the bunkhouse as a load of 'V' twin owners got their order in first!
Come camping with the rest of us, we should have use of one of the fields and I will be organising a couple of the braziers so shouldn't be cold. It looks like there will be a fair amount of new faces this year and now that these bikes have got a few years on them, there should be some really good mods to have a look at. |
Thanks SteveD. Camping is fine by me.
Is payment being sorted individually once we get there? |

Newbury to Wales
Hi all I'm Newbie Jac. Plan to ride the scenic route North on Friday (turn off Birmingham and then through Snowdonia) on my Ten. Bought it from North Wales, so I should blend right in. Anyone like to join me on the Friday.
PS I'm a south african, but have now lived 18 years in Newbury. |
Hey Jac, we won't hold that against you!:110:
Will be great to see new faces, just bring your drinking glove! Cheers Steve |
Thanks Steve, looking forward to see lots of XT's
|
Numbers are looking good Steve. Who'd have thought a month ago we'd have 23 signed up! Got quite a gang together, and plenty of new faces too. :grouphug5:
Might even by able to give the Pinkertons are run for their money! ;)

Sounds good to me. I'll be leaving Newbury Friday morning, so get to Welsh border round lunch time sometime. Then for the really great ride through the mountains. Yippee.
|
Bought my Tenere from a bloke in North Wales 2 years ago. So in a way its like going home for my bike.
|
I'll ride up with anyone.
Route maybe Oxford A40 to Gloucester and then up through Wales. Not sure yet but heading off early Friday morning. |
Hi Steve
I can meet up either Saturday or Sunday Won't be staying over but more than happy to run over there I've pm,d you a few times but I don't think it gets through Is it ok to post my email address Regards Geoff |
Yeah sorry for that.
Just use the pm facility and we can make a plan. Would be good to meet up there before the meet to see if a plan can be sorted. Cheers Steve |

Sounds good. I look forward to that. Some things are better shared. Wish I had a fast forward button.

The signed-up list is looking pretty healthy today!
Look forward to putting names to faces and testing out my gear... Oh and putting the bike through its paces! Can't wait! |

What a terrible problem to have. Looked like about 18 XTs in the last big meet. We may well beat that looking at the numbers on the list. Those welsh mountains are stunning
|
The road through the mountains just south of our campsite. If this doesn't convince you of going to Wales, then what will...

Hey,I don't see any road in that picture- I don't want to scratch my bike or get it dirty...
Lol D. |
Its there if you look carefully at the bottom on the right (with farmhouse). Yes it can be this steep. Just be glad you have that 660!

Of course Keith. I'm going over to Ireland end of next week and then when I come back I intend to spend a couple of days back at Llanfairfechan and sort a rideout. Been a bit busy recently as had a spin over to Santander from Portsmouth, then along the Pyrenees to Andorra, then up through France and back through Calais to home! 2000K miles and didn't miss a beat! Hotelling it, will not do that again :tard:. Rain all the way back through France to Blightey. Left the group just North of Paris as one could not keep up on a Rocket 3! Amateur!..........and made my own way home. We had planned another night and a ferry crossing back through Zeebruger but I'd had enough of bad navigation and toooooooooooo slow! Will make arrangements with Sam at the site when I see her as I'm meeting up at the bunkhouse with a bunch from South Wales on the Thursday evening before we get the ferry over to Ireland on the Friday morning Hope this clarifies things and hope to see all you guys there. PS I'll check the beer as well.:occasion14: |
Are we planning on doing much off tarmac riding?
I'm in two minds as to whether or not I should change my Michelin Siracs for something a bit more off-road bias. |
Hi Arn. I cannot be sure at the moment, but bearing in mind that the weather has been a bit dry lately even if we can get off the beaten track I think you will be OK on road tyres. I will be having a go at a rideout 27th / 28th so will have a good idea of conditions under tyres so to speak. Remember this is the National Park and I think it will be difficult to find true off road tracks, but I'll try:YellowWow_KKPB92:
I will however try to find a quite nadgery / challenging route to keep you guys on your toes and get in some spectacular scenery. Whilst I'm typing I think it will be a good idea if any of the attendees have an idea of problems that they need to discuss or servicing problems that they might like to address. I for one am more than prepared to give a demonstration of how to remove the back tyre, for instance!:laughing1: Simple things like oil level check, chain tension. Might sound simple but some of the guys still are not quite sure and it will be a good opportunity to address these issues. How to make up a relay for auxiliary power, how to change break pads. Just a few ideas. See you guys soon. Cheers Steve |
That sounds good Steve, a little advice on most of the above would be very welcome.
|
PS. I do have a pair of KTM handguards which do fit the Tenere with the bar end weights. I will bring them along. Anybody want a brand new plastic bash plate?:047:
Steve |
Cheers Steve.
I agree with l8ktm, any advice is always welcome and in my case usually necessary! |

I've never really tampered with suspension either. Anyone travelling from the East Midlands (Nottingham) on Friday early afternoon? Cheers. |
Ok, that's good to get some feedback.
My plan at the moment is to go to the bunkhouse this Thursday evening as I'm getting the ferry over to Ireland Friday morning to meet up with some mates and see some racing. I will stay over until Tuesday afternoon and then get the ferry back and again stay at the bunkhouse. I will then have a go at a route for the rideout. I do have some good ideas for roads and tea / pee stops etc and hope to get a route of about 100 miles. This will be in and around the Snowdonia National Park. I know time is getting on but if anyone has a particular road that they can recommend then could you either pm me or reply here and I'll have a go at incorporating it. All ideas are good. I will stay until Thursday so I should have enough time to do something interesting. Nothing is set in stone and the route can be changed as we, as a group feel appropriate. PS I will be bringing along a set of KTM handguards that do fit the Ten (with standard handlebar weights) and an MTC single side silencer, matt black, brackets and link pipe, for the hard of hearing! Open to offers! Cheers Steve |
If anyone on the Wales meet wants to swap for a few hours, I'd like to try an uprated rear shock in return for my 51bhp hooligan. That'd be fun!
Looking forward to checking out everyone's tool kit, and general kit list. I like stuff. Wales is my final test before I head off for three months round Europe so it'll be fun to see what I've missed. Not long now, can't wait! |
is it bad I've already started a general packing setup!!! two pannier roughly packed, a small list of food, waterproof and cloths for top box!! also includes getting my blooming sat nav fixed as it's decided to doesn't want to charge!!!
