Output Shaft Bearing

Hi Guys, Has anyone replaced the output shaft bearing? (the one just behind the front sprocket)

I have searched as much as I can but come up with nothing, is it possible to change without spliting the motor?

Thanks in advanced
Julz

Welcome mate, you need to split the motor.

Thanks Kev for the super fast reply.

That just saved me 20 minutes of stripping time, i can start by dropping the motor and not mess about trying to see if its possible or not.

The motor has 62000km's on it, what other bearings or parts would you recommend I replace while its open? From what I have read crank main bearing have gone at these sort of Km's.

I'll be changing my 5th gear while I'm there as it has been whining for about 20000km's, it hasn't gotten any worse since I first noticed it so that's why I haven't been very worried about it. It actually goes quite after a 1200km run to Johannesburg from Durban and back, and stays quite for a few weeks.

I love my XT. I haven't had many bikes but this one is going to stay around for as long as I can keep it alive.

I would be changing all gearbox bearings, both Crankshaft bearings & while I was in there fit a big bore kit.:eusa_dance:

You will have to machine the casings to fit this cylinder, dead easy when the motor is apart.

I wish I had the time to do a big bore.

Thanks for the info and advice Kev.

I have just got the motor on the bench, quick snack then back to the garage to pull it apart.

No worries.

To replace the left hand side main bearing you will have to press off the cam drive gear, make sure it goes back on in the exact same position, also you must tack weld it after install as it won't be as tight after removing and will spin on the crank.

Great feedback kriss007

Hey Guys

Thanks for all the advise.

My baby is running again, had it running the next morning after buying the spares. After seating all the bearings it took me 11 hours to put the motor together and get it back in the frame.

Although she's mechanically sound there seems to be a electronic gremlin that got in whilst she was apart, only when ridding in the rain though.
So now my only day off is going to be spent splashing water around to try recreate the problem.
