Hi everyone,

I'm planning a trip for at least a few weeks with some soft luggage on some GIVI pannier frames. Has anyone had any experience of the Exan single melting soft luggage?

I'm out of the country until three days before my trip and can't test it myself, but could buy a heat shield while I'm in the US if I have to (I'd rather not).

Thanks in advance folks

I'm using the Wolfman soft luggage with no frames at all. I can't foresee any problems as my exan pipe stays lovely and cool. I used the same bag with my Leo Vince pipes with no frames going to Luxembourg and back and it worked fine. Sometimes we over ingeneer and try and solve problems that don't exist

Perfect, exactly the reply I was hoping for! A few quid saved

And far less weight, which means more speed, better economy. Less is more.

Hello,

I finally bought an exan oval x. Very light and noticeable improvement in engine smoothness.
Sound is great at idle/engine breaking but... a bit too much for me when "loading" the engine. I guess even low speed riding would get tiring without ear plugs.

I was thinking about brazing some of the holes on the db-killer, does it make sense?

Could you possibly post a picture of your dB killer? It'll be easier to pass comment if I know what it looks like. It is quite possible that the Oval and X-Black versions have different types.

My Exan dB killer insert doesn't have any perforations. It is just a simple solid tube with two stand-offs and a solid disc like this...

It is an "oval x black" http://www.mad4exhausts.com/en/yamah...e-x-black.html

So not oval, looks exactly like yours externaly in your first post (it seems your picture is used by the madexhaust website)

Maybe i'm wrong but withoug dismounting the db-killer it looked like there were holes in it. I will pull it out and take pictures tomorrow.

Ok so my db killer is really different than yours, here are the pics...

db killer fitted, there are two walls at the end of the db killer so it takes the whole diameter of the pipe => air is forced inside the smaller cylinder of the db killer:

db killer out:

another better view on the holes and the "entry" to the smaller diameter tube:

it looks pretty black already, i have run about 2000 km on it now.

So... close some of the small holes (i was thinking rivets maybe?), or somehow make the "main entry hole" smaller?

Personally speaking, what I would do (based on the fact I think mine is acceptably quiet) is to replicate this design.

Simply cut a few millimeters off the input end of the tube to get it back to it's full diameter, then tack on two stand-offs about 25mm long and then tack a solid disc to them. I would leave the drilled holes as they are. (Mine has no holes, just a plain old tube, so yours would likely be slightly quieter.)

The solid disc is what makes the difference as it interrupts the wide-spaced pulses (the feature of singles that make them harder to silence than multis) which would otherwise shoot straight through the dB killer.

I wouldn't say yours is any blacker than mine. That looks like a fairly normal/acceptable soot build up. Do you have the AIS connected or disconnected?

Nener 25-08-16 13:17

Thanks for the answer, i'll have a look into that.

The AIS seems to be blocked in an unconvenionnal way (i didn't do it myself, see my thread here: http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=25535).

Backfiring is not a problem, the *bangs* are rare now (maybe i just got used to them)
