Agree. No problem to drill some few holes in the swing arm. The 660 is not prepared to have it so this is the only way to fix it.

It is to avoid a break down caused because the chain goes off to the sprocket. But as well if you have an accident it prevents to put your hand between the chain and the sprocket. A friend of mine lost a finger in this way.
The chain sits right. Probably you think this because de grey colour around. This sprocket has the inside made by aluminium (light grey) and the exterior it is made by steel (dark grey). This helps to have a light but strong sproket. See here:
