Set free play as the manual states. Just make sure the adjuster at the lever is not left wound in too far, leave it so there's a good 10mm of thread showing, which helps the cable run more smoothly through the end of outer sleeve. You may find it easier to get the initial adjustment right at the clutch end of the cable. Also give the exposed cable at the lever a good lube up.

OK. Thanks for the tip. Will give a go.

Finally got mine, after 20+ emails, one wrong set and another few e-mails and a lengthy wait they arrived, they are brilliant....

I didn't use the easy to buy link as there wasn't one when I ordered....

got there in the end though...

photographicsafaris 13-11-13 22:42

Arrived - they're awesome!

pictures to follow, but Blue shortie levers with yellow/gold adjusters on a Blue 'Ten look better than the OE stuff.

Stupid question though, the Front brake is slightly sticking, is there an easy way to adjust the brake?

cheers

I also had to grind mine a bit with fine sandpaper.

Where did you grind? dig out the hole, or grind down the leading edge?

Bizarre that this si the only way to adjust it though!

majland 13-11-13 23:54

Mine was sticking because it was just a bit to thick so i took just a bit of the sides where it is inside the base.

I was well impressed with this thread until I discovered that the item was "ended". However, perhaps they'll resolve that soon. Can anybody please tell me if the XT660Z levers will fit a 2004 XT660R?

marques 14-11-13 14:12

I think The levers are much better than I expected. Not only do they look good. What they make the bike feel much sportier to ride.
Thanks for the tip

Sadly, these levers will not fit the X or R models.

Try sending Adioz a PM and see where he got his from...

:signthankspin:

Just wanted to say thanks for the effort to sort out the info and links. Ordered a set for my ten and they arrived within a week and look great. Still to fit them but offered them up and they look like the right ones. Will post pics and let you all know how the fitting goes.

Scott.

You're right, they don't appear to be available at the moment.

I have contacted the seller (Sunny), who has been very helpful in the past, to get a definitive answer on the situation. Hopefully it's just a supply issue or something minor and they've temporarily pulled their listings for CNC levers.

Watch this space...

bigtim 10-01-14 10:41

Many thanks I'll keep watching and checking out Ebay.

Pleiades 10-01-14 18:04

:toot: Good news - All sorted!

Exchanged emails with Sunny today and he's given me a fresh link to the "new" XT660Z Tenere page on the ezmoto ebay shop.

There are now several types of lever available for the Tenere:

-The cheapest, the one we've all been buying at 28.89USD/17.53

-A better quality version of the above which has greater resistance to colour fade ( as El Forko found) for 43.38USD/26.32

-There are also folding levers now and dial adjuster levers too, both in two levels of quality and all specifically listed for the XT660Z.

Got some more good news too... Sunny has offered to do the upgrade from any of the basic quality levers to their higher quality equivalent for just 5USD(3) extra for XT660.com members. Just got to hear back from him as to how we're going to work the discount...

Anyway, here's the link...

Hope it all works and you can find what you want...

What length?

What length are people buying and using? I run Touratech handguards and my lever balls are very close to the plastic. Are the standard length levers listed here longer or shorter than our OEM levers? Or do I need to order the short option? They look like they are a 3 finger type of lever, is that right?

Many thanks

aliwakeskate 27-01-15 16:36

I have the short option (the 3 finger type). That way they don't come close to the handguards.

Ever since these levers first became available (going back as far as the days when you had to buy the clutch and brake separately) everyone who expressed an interest went for the short version. In fact I'm not sure anyone has bought the full length type at all?

Go for the short three-finger version, the long ones are pretty much the same size as the stock levers.

Replicant 14-02-15 21:59

I bought myself a set about a month ago and they took about 7 days to turn up.
So much nicer than the originals.

I have ordered the length adjustable ones to give myself the option on the blade lengths. Just waiting for them to show up. Will report back once I have fitted them.

Great quality, and they were a five minute fit! They have given a good clearance with my KTM handguards.

Amazing value for money. Have fitted my length adjustable ones and have ridden on the road with them, but not off road. Generally, I like them set in their longest position, but maybe I'll shorten them up when off road. Time will tell. I'm not sure they are quite as comfortable a shape as the non length adjustable ones. The lever blade is a bit squarer and fatter as a result of the design needed to make them length adjustable. The best bit I think is that these also have a hinge in, so that if you drop the bike, the lever should just hinge up in the air rather than get bent or snap. I've not tested that, and I also have hand guards, so hopefully a broken lever will never happen. But like I say, a great bit of bling for not a lot of money.

ludicator 19-08-15 10:42

Do any of you guys know if the brake & clutch levers are the same / interchangeable throughout the XT range (R, X, Z)?

Just found this interesting offer on Aliexpres, but it's for X & R, and I'd need them for a 2009 Tenere / Z :

The levers on the X/R are different and not interchangeable with the Z.

I ended up taking these off and going back to my OE levers. I think the non- folding version, probably in the short version is the one to go for.

The shorties are the ones that the vast majority go for - you just felt like being different didn't you! ;)

Desert Racer 29-11-15 15:24

Just like to say the the last link on page 6 still works as I have just ordered some after losing my balance in the carpark at work dropping the bike down its right side & bending the original brake lever. Other than a slightly scuffed bar end that's all that got damaged. Cheers.

greatescape 30-11-15 08:11

Hey Desert Racer, I call that the Tenere topple! , I am always amazed at how well it takes a tumble. I've dropped mine a few times and not a mark on it .....just a few bruises on me! . Steve

majland 19-04-16 19:01

I bought a pair from ezmoto 2.5 years ago and have ridden 20000km since (total 24000km) and today my clutch cable gave up...

That is way to early as i'm used to ride over 50.000km before even thinking about replacing a clutch cable.

On closer inspection i can see the wear in the lower side of the new clutch handles base and that the edgers there are very sharp - A CNC machined edge...

I've sandet it at bit more round now and temporary fixed it with this bolt on:

Don't know the name in english

Pleiades 20-04-16 00:40

In the interests of balance, I've had 4 years out of my EZ-Moto levers and no hint of any wear, fraying or problems. Still on the original 2008 clutch cable.

That's probably the kiss of death now. Knowing my luck it'll break tomorrow! ;)

Hope not - just a word of warning to keep an eye on it. While searching the forum i also found stories about oem grips/cables fail in 10k and recommendation to not have the adjuster by the handle all the way in...

So when i get the replacement cable i'll keep the handle a bit out and then adjust it by the engine. I had it all the way in since i fitted the barkbuster with the logic that as the cable stretches i'll only need to adjust it outwards ....

englishbandit 20-04-16 23:30

I got mine off eBay for 18 delivered. Get all my small levers from china been using them for about 7 years never had a problem with any of them. And I brake late and hard.they Have been as good as the pazzo levers I used to buy at 130 a set. Thought I would give the cheap ones a go, 7 years later still using them.

bluext660z 08-05-16 10:44

Just some info on the post that was on the end of page 6 (Pleides) that talks about an upgrade offer is no longer available as this is the reply that I got from the seller.

"Dear buyer,
The post is from 2 years ago, sorry we no longer have this deal and Sunny has left the company a long time.
Regards,
Kelly"
