Hi. Well the decat and drilling isn't going to save much weight but the bike does run substantially better without the cat. Noise wise it is a bit louder than stock - mostly as the stock bike is so dam quite. It it much less noisy than a MTC can but about the same as a twin leo Vince setup (took a quick spin on a mates bike) with baffles in place . It breaths better once drilled so as long as you aren't too worried with the increase in noise I'd drill it. It can be drilled later so maybe decat first and see how you get on.

Thanks RBJ. Just to be sure I understand correctly. The holes are drilled from behind and could therefore be done without opening up the can a second time?
|
Yes that's right. There are quite a few pictures in the report and more in my photobucket account if you look for the xt660z album.

Very clear and help full, again thanks.

RBJ when cutting the can open, I also cut through underliing cloth and screen. Should I try and put that back in or just take it out, and if so will heat be a problem?
Thanks |
Sounds like you cut it slightly differently? I'm sure mine stayed in one piece. Anyway the amounted of heat produced after decat and drilling is a lot less than standard so it should be OK. However I would try and weld all the bit back together as they were. Post a picture?

The can is at a freinds house for him to weld (I am not an expert), so no foto at this time. He is however confident that he can tag the screen back in place. So we should be fine.
Thanks for your support. |
Job done, thanks for you help RBJ. Improved sound and performance without any cost. I must also admit that i really like the design of the stock vs aftermarket pipes that seems to be more exposed.
Now it is problaly time for PC or KEV mod. |
glad it worked out. PC is very expensive. kev mod makes a difference but the CO2 controller he makes has a noticablepossitive effect ofthe ride quality.
