But the slot side don't meet.......

Remember it's splines so no matter how tight you make the bolt, it is never going to become tight on the shaft, once it has worn. I recon Fiddich hit the nail on the head, when it's new all the splines are nice and tight, so securing it properly saves the day.

Maybe a new one and drill it out from the start to avoid and small movement.

I just used a longer stainless screw with counter nut.
That way, you may use 2 spanners to tighten it up.
Works for more than 30.000 km now, never came loose again.

ta fiddich must have a look at that. haven't been out tenere much at all. took it for a few weekends home and that's been it really as I've been so busy at work I sleep most of sat and Sundays shopping and cleaning flat.
