Alternative Gear Lever

Gear change lever.

The original Yamaha lever is at best loose on the output shaft splines even when tight. Is there an alternative from a WR or similar that anyone's used?

Ive not found one yet. Spent a bit of time with a pattern parts guy going through his stock to check.

Looks like you'll need a Touratech tart part then.....

I guess I'll be heading that way soon too, on my third lever and this ones wobbly now (although I'd rather replace a worn out lever than a new shaft)

on my old xtr I never had to replace the gear lever even with 46k mile on it. ok it was a bit wobbles at the end of its life. surprised they are coming loose so quick

Your lever on the ten has had a modification - internal threads drilled out and replacement nut and bolt fitted - you will not have any problems with it mate.

I did that with mine as well and it still wobbles. Going to break out the devcon.

My bike's currently off the road because the Touratart lever has worn enough to spin on the splines. Didn't last any longer the Yam ones. Looks nicer, but that's about all I can say about it.

Think my selector shaft's worn a bit as well - tried to refit one of the old ones that was merely wobbly when I took it off, and that now spins as well. Boo :(

Did mine when the bike (and splines) were very 'young' so that may have made a difference.

Thanks... means I don't have to buy one now :icon_thumleft:

Back to the drawing board.

Why not try the old fix....
cut the slot wider so it pinchs up more/tighter on the shaft...

But the slot side don't meet.......

Remember it's splines so no matter how tight you make the bolt, it is never going to become tight on the shaft, once it has worn. I recon Fiddich hit the nail on the head, when it's new all the splines are nice and tight, so securing it properly saves the day.

Maybe a new one and drill it out from the start to avoid and small movement.

I just used a longer stainless screw with counter nut.
That way, you may use 2 spanners to tighten it up.
Works for more than 30.000 km now, never came loose again.

That was my next plan..

Don't like the sound of the Touratech one already.. Surely a WR/YZ lever should fit??

Did that first.

Enduronumbers, I asked about the YZ/WR parts but to no avail. If you find put, please let us know.
