XT660Z with YZ forks
Hi to everybody, I just want to share my experience with you. I swap the stock forks with YZ front. I using Yz 450 2006 forks, (46mm top, 49mm bottom) triple clamp was from was from WR 450 2005. The size was 44mm / 48mm and I machined it 1mm top and 0.5mm bottom to be able to put the forks in. I using the original Yamaha steering stem. Bolt it without problem, only on the top clamp i have to put 1mm spacer between the stem and the clamp(the original stem was top 25mm, the new is top 23mm. The front wheel is from YZ 450.I also changed the handle bars with 28mm. What is left is a brake caliper(YZ 450) oversize brake disk 270mm, brake hose line YZ and I am done. I did today a test drive(without front brake, just to see how it is - what a difference, now the front is not diving as before. I need to change the rear shock because now is so soft(compare to the front) and lift it with new bones (35 mm) The YZ front forks are 40 mm longer than the stock. I should be ok with the new bones on rear. A proper test drive I will make next week when everything is done.
p.s I don't know how to upload pictures, if somebody tell me how to do it, or give an e-mail to send it, no problem to do it. |
Photos...... YES YES..
A USD front end is one of my future mods along with a Ohlins shock... |

looking good - what you going to do about a mudguard?
did you get the fork internals serviced / re-sprung as the Ten is heavier than a YZ (or are they fine as standard) Would look nice now with Excel rims front & back :) |

The front forks are re-sprung and set for supermoto(rider 100kg exactly what I am) and they are perfect. I bought it already done from ebay -was a good deal about 130 euro. The tripleclamp was 50 euro. The problem now is that the rear is so soft. I will change it with Ohlins and lift it wit 35mm bones. |
 Nice work, looking good and unbelievably cheap too!

Good work fella.
So am i right in thinking there is a few different "front end" swaps you can do on the Ten? KTM 450 forks Triple clamp from OTR or (the orginal post) YZ 450 forks WR450 triple clamp (with adjustment) Or (this is more of a guess...i tihnk i read it somewhere? :) ) KTM 450 forks KTM 990 tripleclamp Or The whole lot from OTR.....if your loaded! why is it SO much? I guess its important to remember when doing this you also have to think about brake calipers and discs. Would be good to try and pool all info together, would make a very interesting & useful sticky? just an idea |
Why so much? Well, you get a brand new set of forks, brand new yokes, and don't have to have access to a machine shop to make it fit together.
Don't know about 990 yokes. Stoic Bloke did his with SX yokes and a custom steering stem. |
