Heres the sub frame I built for my XTR...
The bike will still be able to lean... You will notice the front mount is higher than the rear so as the bike leans the car will steer into the corner as the front mount being higher has a longer arc radius..pushing/pulling the front of the car more than the rear.. a leaner dosn't require a reduce trail front end (leading link) like a fixed car I built a leanner cargo unit for my XR250 it worked so well hardly knew the car was there most of the time.. a good thing with a leaner there is only 3 bolts to remove it... 2 main pivits & lean limiter strut.. 15 mins to remove the XR unit.. http://imageshack.us/a/img825/6198/ssa41866.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img21/3295/ssa41865t.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img832/8082/ssa41864g.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img171/2055/ssa41863.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img214/7877/ssa41889.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img256/9101/ssa41888.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img825/6198/ssa41866.jpg Heres my XR250 unit.. Anhyone remember the 'Sidewinder' bouncy side car creation from the 80's that was a way around folks using their previous learner friendly 250's + when the new 125cc law came in?
The whole thing hinged and weighed not much, so you could ride with lean angles too - but not too much. No doubt pictures etc on the WWW somewhere and may add inspiration to the mounting/sub frame issues.. Good luck. |

Great design Petenz, why did you go or a leaner over fixed? |

1..... easy to remove/install,, 15/20 mins.. 2..... no leading link front end required,, makes No1 possable.... 3...... car can be very light... 4...... less stress on the bike... 5...... car has very little efect on the bike over bumps ,, rideing standing over rough ground is still as with out the car..... 6...... still lean on the seal... less rider weight shift & turning the bars to corner... 7...... steering dosn't become heavy,,, again no leading link required... BUT as with any side car you can get into trouble very quickly if you push the riggs limits... more so than on 2 wheels... PS... do they slide well on gravel roads... YES ,, Yes they do... |
well, after a year, project almost finished)))
take a look a bit) https://drive.google.com/uc?export=d...mgtZlROZjd5bEE |
Outfits are the work of Satan - and I say that advisedly as one (a right-hand chair Ural) tried to take my soul on the M25/M23 interchange!
Incidentally, you can do the Elefant on a solo - I've done it on a Guzzi (which broke down), a K75, a GT750 and a rat Triumph Tiger. http://www.sweller.dynalias.org/imag...fantBMWk75.jpg http://www.sweller.dynalias.org/images/elefanttent.jpg http://www.sweller.dynalias.org/images/mordor.jpg We're off to a rally near Chemnitz next year (10/01/15) as the Elefant annoys me - loads of biker lifestyle types rock up in vans and use scooters to drag sleds down to the campsite with loads of gear. Very few people seem to ride their bikes all the way there - basically only the British and Italians do so and carry all their gear on the bike. There's plenty of drinking and stupidity which is a very good thing! Although, it can be very grim if it rains. Mordor (the lower campsite) is always worth a visit. You'll need to have a petrol stove (it gets too cold for gas), alloy poles in the tent (fibreglass shatter) - a thermarest and ex-army cold weather sleeping bag will do the job. |
A clean up & paint...... it will look good...
Is the steering heavy with the car on... how much lead is on the car wheel ? Should be no more than 15% of the bikes wheel base... |
