......when, for christs sake, will we see a new fuel injected DR Big? It doesn't even have to be 800cc given Motori Minarelli's success with its 660cc engine.

It is kinda of cool though for Suzuki to give a reminder of where the look comes from (as many of us have been saying for sometime ;-) )

Never. It was a product of two things, the Dakar rally and corporate ****-waving - Suzuki wanting to be able to say they had built the biggest single cylinder motorcycle engine.

The open-class bikes are gone from the Dakar (although in the final year KTM got back up to about 730cc), and I don't think Suzuki have got the cash any more to build something just for fun.

The talk of oil cooler position, footpeg design, rocks and trails maybe slightly missing the point? I reckon Suzuki are probably being quite astute, like Kawasaki with the Versys 1000, in building a road based parts bin special to cheaply cash in on the adventure bike market with minimal R&D outlay/risk. Note they use the term "adventure style" bike, not adventure bike, they know and accept it'll never be used off road and, knowing Suzuki it will be cheap. (Unlike Yamaha and Triumph who have invested heavily in developing the S10 and Explorer, given them very high price tags, and yet will never recoup their investment.) It still beggers belief why Yamaha didn't go down this route and cheaply re-hash the TDM, give it some personality and turn it into an "adventure style" bike?

Now that's talking sense. I'll put money on you being right and Suzuki undercutting the opposition prices quite significntly. I'm a case in point, love my current DL1000, will probably buy it's 'replacement' if it looks 'adventure' and is cheaper than the others.

I never really liked the look of the V-Stroms but this certainly looks better. Would look even better with spoked wheels. I gather though that the current mpg is not as good as the Super Ten.
Now that most manufacturers have a heavyweight offering it would be nice to have a better choice in the more affordable middleweight class. Something that didn't have a detuned (but still high revving) sports bike engine, had no more than two cylinders, with wire spoke wheels........hmmm....like Africa Twin, original Super Tenere, DR750/800.

Well, I went, I looked, I saw ...... but it was in a glass case! so no sitting on it or pouring over it. Looks lower and narrower than the current model. If you squint, it looks a bit like the GS, especially with that two-tone seat. Suzuki guys couldn't tell me much, other than .... it will not be on sale until at least next Autumn, will be lower, lighter, more powerful than the current DL1000 and will be competetively priced against the other big 'adventure tourin' bikes.
Incidentally, sat on and climbed all over the new KTM1190Adv (take note Suzuki). I think the KTM hard-core will be disappointed - it's like all the others, much more road-tour oriented.
Had a test ride on the Triumph 800 and new 1200. Former was awful, latter was quite nice - very smooth - but lower and less ergonomically comfortable than the 660Ten (for me).
All-in-all, well pleased that I'm getting my 660Ten (on Wednesday). sat on loads of bikes at the show and - with the exception of the other 660's (which I'd never sat on before) and the KTM990SM, all were uncomfortable for me, in relative terms. Quite liked the Husqvarna Terra 650 mind. Husky guy said it's more powerful and lighter than the Ten.
