Have you considered a pair of trials boots like these?

i have the sidi adventure boot and think blloody fantastic.
and protected my ankle when fell off in the lakes going on the 'old coach road' doh.....bike fell on side of boot. NO PROBS.

as i'm in the states the choices here are different, i wanted an adventure boot and waterproof but didn't want to spend $500 - the Sid boots here i found out are junk, not what you are getting in the UK, so someone suggested TCX infinity Goretex so i have some on the way, and they are real leather not pleather! (plastic leather) i got them for $285 / 185 pounds, also i wanted something i could walk in and not be squeeking along, which is the problem with the US Sidi

These Sidi Adventure boots had better be good as I've treated myself to some. Had a good word with Selina and she recons they are the dogs, so that's good enough for me.
Hope to have a ride before the new year and see how they do!
