Bar vibes with new Barkbusters

i fitted some barkbusters yesterday (xmas pressie) and on the drive into work. Even though they have their own 'end weight' supplied with the kit, this morning i could imediately feel there is an increase in the bar vibes.
It's not so bad around town but doing 75 odd on the M40 it's quite bad.

So 'barsnake' - i can get one but they are about 30 or so i have been told. i take it they work? also read on the net that lead shot can be used or even silicon on it's own. What have you tried and what works?

They do work, as well as my bar inner weights that I run all the time to reduce my bar vibration.

One other thing I did was to place plastic washers between the bar mounts & the top triple clamp, this helps reduce the vibration being passed to the bar mounts & bars. I also run one wrap of cloth tape rapped around the bars between the bars & bar mounts, this separation reduces the vibration to the bars, I have never had the bars move in the mounts at all with the cloth tape, if you use insulation tape it will move.

My XT's bars are so smooth with all these mods.

just had a look at your mod , nice one - but... does the rubber alone keep the weight tight enough? i want mine to be tight enough to withstand a knock if i drop it offroad.

The rubber mod was using heavier bar weights, the rubber fuel hose is used to keep the weights separated from the bars. This mod is most probably not suited for a big knock or off road.

May be add longer bolts to the existing bar weights & fit inner weights as well, this is the set up I run right now.

I'll give it a go before forking out cash - now what can i cut up at work to make a weight ;)

thanks

any idea what's the inner bar dia (metric) on the standard tenere? i can scout around work for a likely 'donation' to the cause.

Should be 14mm.

S'funny - I've the BB hand guards and haven't really noticed the vibes.. Mind you I only rode a few miles with the standard set up and was running in at that..

Just checked the bars. They start out at 14mm where the weight goes in but then drops down to 12mm so will have to search for something else tomorrow.

well i've made up a little something. as the bar went down to 12mm so soon after the 14mm plug i took a 12mm mild steel bar and filed down one end. I then cut a thread so that it could screw into the barkbuster endcap plug.
i weighed the two together and it only come out at 290 grams while the OE weight is around 490 grams (nearly half a kilo!!) - no wonder the xt's are so heavy. ;)
anyway i've only done one side to see if it works or not - plus the garage was getting cold!
