heinedau k60 scout ..
ive read a lot on these on adventure rider
and the k60 thread here ... http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=11504&page=2 theres a load of posts but the k60 and the scout are getting way different reviews which has made me give em a go the scout is a different profile but only available in 140 /80 ive decided to give them a go i cant possible see how they could be worse than the sirac off road as mentioned in the thread in fairness to the sirac they seem a decent road tyre and ive ridden som filthy shiny 3degree tarmack and they have been on a par with all the other usual suspects ... i fitted the scouts and have only done 15 miles in the filthy dark and cold ..brand new ...but they seem good given the circumstances .. since i fitted them this happened grr http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/2074/snowm.jpg By minkyhead at 2010-12-18 a lot of peiople [adv rider] have rated the scout rear as very good most have been pleased with it the front has got mixed reviews a lot have gone scout rear and tk front .... all have said thet the scout gives huge milage on gs 800s and 1150 adv and the like nearly every post rates them better on the road than the tks link http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...443958&page=25 having destroyed a tk on 1200gs in 1800 miles ive plumped for the scouts ive not had chance to do much with them yet ill update warts and all im looking for a long distance 50/50 .. the siracs are usless off road on anything other than dry or hard packed surface ive learned that /knew that before i dabbled ive used kenda track masters for heavy off road before and they are fantastick .. im expecting a trade off here but am hopful they wont spit me off as soon as it gets loose .... heres the tyre k60 scout 90/90 21 140/80/17 rear http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/9150/rearfe.jpg By minkyhead at 2010-12-15 http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/8159/rear2.jpg By minkyhead at 2010-12-15 front http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/5172/frontrl.jpg By minkyhead at 2010-12-15 http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/8446/fronttread.jpg By minkyhead at 2010-12-15 http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/607/img1535a.jpg By minkyhead at 2010-12-10 |
I have the K60 old profile on the Ten for about 4k and I'm very pleased with them compared to the Siracs. And they are about half the price.
As far as I know the Scout only has the reinforcement band on the middle of the tire, the composition being the same with the regular old K60. Regarding the sizing, from 2011 is expected the M+S Scout version to be available in 130/80 too. I don't know about the non M+S. |
Does the extra reinforcement mean that it will last longer?
I only get about 8500km from the rear tire. |
I'm also very interested in the Heidenau K60 tyres, is the normal or the Scout version. But just like Nelis asked, what is the durability of them, compared to the Metzeler Tourance I now run(which get around 20.000km and more, just got the third set last june). They're probably a bit cheaper then the Metzelers, so that would compensate the maybe lesser durability?

im still snowed in here grrr
happy xmas everyone anyway ... the weather has help me troll around 200 postings on these tyres taking that theres no one more sad than me ill try sum up what the general feeling is .. the reason i bought them is as follows .... the scout has a bigger blocked tread than the k60 front and rear it has very good reviews regarding its road manners the rear has been giving great milage to 85 90 105 bhp bikes its also been praised for its off road grip .. the front is regarded as better than the tkc on road not as good off road in heavy mud .. if you not interestd in off road too much id stick with the tourance or such like .. i would myself without doubt if you are the tourance sirac trailwing and the like are not up to it unless its dry or hardpacked the tks are a good good tyre but the rear wears quick im not sure at all yet but i will test it in reasonoble teraine and give a honest appraisal hey have you seen me bell me grandoughter got me :partyondude: http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/6268/bellx.jpg By minkyhead at 2010-12-25 |
just thought id get back to you on the tyres
ive around 600 miles up now first thing to say is the road manners on the tyres are really very good indeed near all riding has been in ****ty cold shiny roads never any issues with grip or turn in surprisingly white lining goes unnoticed a little blast on dryish roads on sunday getting home getting a little more on the shoulder was no problem at all nice and stable on the motorways no noticible noise / so positive on road grip for sure http://www.adventurebikerider.com/co...icons/cool.png http://www.adventurebikerider.com/co...icons/cool.png ive done a few trails and dicked around in the woods ... hard packed cart roads and gravel as you would expect no trouble 25 30 mph if i ever see any dryness again you could fly a fair bit quicker here but thres still the odd ice surprise among the rotting leaves grrr http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/831/img1533g.jpg By minkyhead at 2011-01-03 wet slippy mud and slippy grass tracks the rear hooks up pretty well it does break here and there but generally drives well given the limitations of the tread ..its a good 50 50 tyre ..light years in front of trail wings siracs ect not too bad at all as a road tyre to go off road its not too bad here on the other hand its hugly behind a dedicated knobbly enduro boys will hate it ..its a slow speed get me through tyre me general plan is not to activly seek it out ... the front as you may expect is not as good but it does grip . these are for modest speeds only in slippy mud ..on the siracs the bike would have been over no question ...the front does warn you as it moves and a qick dip of the clutch you can feel it regain traction where as the road trails would just comtinue to slide away verdict .. theyll get you through slowly as long as its not silly snot filled trenches medium terain i thought they were pretty decent i/e wet soil rubble i chose a climb and paused a few mins as to be honest ithought i would end up on me arse.. two ciggys later sod it only one way to find out and went up any way i was surprised .. i got the bike up a few tricky climbs which to be honest i didnt think there would be enough drive .. again on the siracs i would imagine three meters before giving up ,,the rear on these drove well 75 meteres to the top all in all so far as a 50 50 maby 6040 tyre there pretty impressive now if i can get the huge milage touted by the other forums ill be pleased happy new year quite steep wet soil http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/6446/climb.jpg By minkyhead at 2011-01-03 semi clogged still driving ok http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/7623/climbrear.jpg By minkyhead at 2011-01-03 liited in claggy mud but get you through slowly http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/719/img1600m.jpg By minkyhead at 2011-01-03 http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/4915/cl2snow.jpg By minkyhead at 2011-01-03 did ok here it was more slippy than it looked but had reasonable traction no sudden pushing of the front http://img813.imageshack.us/img813/5654/clgrass.jpg By minkyhead at 2011-01-03 |

Im thinking of taking another type of tyre.
As the F800gs easily get over 10000km (6000miles). I will try the same tires as the F800, hoping they will last longer. Research showed that they are capable for higher speeds and weight. |
sent u a message :tongue1:
got it thanks emailed you |
I had a TKC on the front and a K60 on the rear. Decent combination for anything other than mud (but as OP said, nowhere near as good on-road as Tourances/Siracs etc), but I didn't get anything like the life out of the rear that has been reported on ADV Rider. But mine was a 130 section rear, and I think I can remember reading (but can't now find) a thread in which someone said that the 140 section is a different construction, almost a completely different tyre that happens to have the same tread pattern.
|
thanks for that it is confusing ..i was myself
the k60 and k 60 scout are different tyres the scout has a deeper tread and pattern on front and rear it would follow that it may be different in compound or construction as it certaily doing a lot more miles than the k60 according to the threads theres no problem on the scouts with road holding at all ..im skipping along cold wet roads 50 60 70 80 and can only conclude they are different in compound its the scout that has been getting the the best feedback but its only available in the 140 ..which is what i fitted to be honest id have fitted a 120 but again not available in the scout ive not noticed any problems handling with the wider rear ..thus far anyway ill come back when ive done a couple of k more and report on wear which on this bike aint gonna take long i really do enjoy riding it :sunny::sunny: heres a 130 k60 rear http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/3971/k60130.jpg By minkyhead at 2011-01-04 heres ak60 scout 140 there quite a difference in the profile also a centre band which may explain the deeper blocks ?? http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/7226/k60scout.jpg By minkyhead at 2011-01-04 |

This is how my normal K60 tire looks like. Doesn't look like your first picture. |
@minkyhead: Do i read "Mitas" on the first picture? Maybe the wrong picture?
I do also run a K60 Scout since this autumn. Due to the very early snow this year i cannot tell too much about it, but i noticed that at first i've had no real confidence in it at all. This was mainly because of some irritating reviews i've read in forums like this. I gained more confidence in it the more i tested it. Especially during rain and on wet grass (i have to ride a 23% hill down and up if i want to leave home, with pebbles, grass and tarmac) All i can say is that the tyre probably does a better job on- and offroad than i do. So far the tyres haven't let me down yet, and it doesn't look like they'll do in the next 5000 km. |
dam your right i lifted it off adv rider .. hopfully you can see why i made the mistake
nelises are the one this is from the heindau website http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/4498/k60m.jpg By minkyhead at 2011-01-04 it is confusing ..theres pages andpages on the dam things anyway the difference is still the centre band http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/3348/heidenau.gif Uploaded with [url=http://imageshack.us]ImageShack.us[ sorry about that just trying to clear up the confusion ..ill come back later when ive done some more miles and off roading |
How much were they and where did ya get them from?

the scout rear is clearly listed the front scout is i think k60 m and s mark [mud and snow ] mine is m & s and is marked scout they are around 30 quid extra over the k60 ..for the pair rear 140 only please checkall the above that im not wrong if you want some [its like the ferkin kypton factor ] in good faith ... link http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.p..._s=1&s_p=index |
Thanks for this, might try these, cheap enough, currently at 136 for the pair, if they last 6k I'd be happy. Then I can have a ceremonial tourance burning party, or just chuck em in a ditch, which is where they seem to want to live.

Hi at all.
I must ask you some question about K60 Scout! I'm interesting it, but I didn't find much about wet and rain tarmac and their mileage. Now I have a pair of anakee2, great on wet and rain tarmac, end used for more than 16.000km. I'm searching something more off-road (only a bit) but without problem during raining drive. Thank's to all |

Just before my trip to PL-SK-CZ, I got a fresh set of K60 Scouts(at 74.000km) and now at 84.000km they still got enuff thread for many more km's.......however....
This morning when checking the tyre pressure, I noticed this(see piccies) on the rear tyre, at three spots, all in the middle: small cracks at the knobbies? What did cause this? Just wear? Could it harm to ride on with these, I have doubts.... The pressure I use: front 2.3, back 2.5 as in the manual. I have a spare set of half worn Scouts, so I'll have the rear one fitted for fall/winter and then in the spring I'll get afresh set. Although I don't know if I'll stick with the Scouts, because the mileage is a bit dissapointing like this(compared to three sets of Tourances with an average of around 20.000km's). Any thoughts on this matter, guys&gals? Greetz, Hans. |
That could just be a tyre that is old and not stored well.....
No one knows how ling it sat on the shelf before you bought it, could have done 2 winters in a freezing store for all you know..... Do they have a production date on ? I know some do.. |
OMG, old thread, sorry. point still valid though I guess.

A stupid question from me again. I am thinking about fitting a pair of Heidenau K60 Scouts on my Tenere for a long overland tour later this year - but it doesnt seem that they produce them in the 17' 130/80 TT size anymore. Can one use tubes in TL marked tires?
http://heidenautires.com/dual-sport-tires/ Because I suppose you cant use TL tubeless tires on the OEM Tenere rims? |
heinedau k60 scout ..
Don't worry. Tubeless tyres work just fine on tube type rims (obviously with a tube though! ;) )
|
Funny things tyres !!! got these 2 to take on my Balkans trip, but which one K60 or E09 ???
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-r...o/IMG_1843.JPG Errring more to the K60 for mileage , but just take a look at the size differance !!! Both 140s https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-1...o/IMG_1844.JPG Ohhh and a TKC up front |
I've just fitted Conti Escapes on my Tengai after removing the Avon Distanzias ... I did consider the K60s and E-09's but went for a more road biased option
