Handguard Vibrations

My solution was to buy the Tenere specific Barkbuster versions 85.00 delivered from dirtbikebitz, drill & re-tap the existing bar end weights (thanks to Greg from this site for the ideas) and re-fit the Handguards, absolutely perfect, no vibrations maybe even less than normal due to the Handguards being tightened up in place and more importantly the Handguards dont touch any part of the screen when on full lock in either direction. I got a local engineering firm to drill & re-tap them for around 7.00.
Although you only gain around an inch in width overall it does seem a little bit more when in confined areas but it does the job without any nasty vibrations and fits perfectly.

Hi Peregrine, I had the same idea but what did you use for the bolts? original ones sent with the handgards? then did they tap all the way in or what, sorry about the questions:smilies0942:.... need to get these vibes under control:googly[1]: TDMalcolm

Bar end weights

Hi TDMalcolm, I got the engineering firm to drill into the weight part which is around 40mm long, they drilled & tapped around 30mm deep and provided me with longer bolts which are exact replicas of the B/buster versions, the Handguards have a thickness of 10mm so i have an overall depth of 40mm to utilise, i currently have 30mm bolts in giving me a bite of 20mm but obviously you can adjust this to suit particularly if your doing extensive off-roading.
Hope this helps.
Steve

Hi Steve, Thanks for that i'll see if my local engineering firm will do this for me:ytiller:, i really need to have less vibes...numb fingy's while riding slow, clutch / throttle control is no fun:sad3:

Handguard

Hi TDMalcolm, The bike is terrible when you take the OEM weights off as i did at first when putting on the small weights supplied with the Barkbusters i vowed to take Handguards off and find an alternative as the fillings in my teeth were coming loose and it was no fun whatsoever but thanks to Greg on this forum he gave me the idea for the job and you will love the result as well as the look.
All the best
Steve

I guess this thread is another perfect example of how we are all different. I changed from the OE bars to Renthal highs and fitted some venom handguards (cheaper to buy both than buy TT or Barkbuster guards on their own...), ditching the bar end weights. I did that with probably 800 miles on the bike. I'm now approaching 15,000miles and have never had any problems with vibes.

Having just changed (on Friday) my OE bars/weights/handguards for the same Renthals/no weights/tatty old Acerbis guards that were in a corner of the garage, it is noticeable that there is more vibration coming through the bars. As I've only done about 150 miles since, I can't comment on whether it is actually a problem for me, or just different.

I'll be doing about 3000 miles in the next month, so if I don't post in August, it's probably because my fingers have fallen off! Or because, since I'll be doing most of those miles in an MX lid and goggles, I've gone deaf/insane.

Guess we'll know more by sunday ;)

This sounds really strange to me. I replaced stock handle bar with oversize aluminium bar, removed bar end weights and replaced upper triple clamp and handlebar clamp by some new version without any rubber seatings in it. I do not find any vibrations unusual to single cyclinders and even my GPS mounted on the handlebar takes it without any problems. Just rode 2600km withing 6 days.

You may want to consider foam grips, that work perfectly for me. Note you need to use special glue to make them stick in their position.
Regards, Phil

Regarding the foam grips are they 22mm & 25mm??
