Cheers matey,
I have just returned from the garage having had another look at it. The guards fit perfectly now, all i've had to do is loosen off the bolts holding the clutch/mirror and slide it a few 'mm' to the right.
Your answer just reinforces that i've done the right thing!!!

Removing bar end weights
 
Hi, I have just got a tenere with the KTM handguards but they are held on by the original bar end weights. I wish to remove these but cant find a suitable 'bung' type bolt to go in there place. I believe the size I need is M16 x 1.5 (pitch) x 20mm (length). Does anybody know of anything I can use and where to get them ? Any help would be much appreciated.

If all you need is a bolt to fit in the thread of the bar ends (into the stock bars), then somewhere like Namrick would be able to sort you out if you know the dimensions... you could get socket head or dome/button head (that would be my suggestion) allen bolts, and job would be, as the say, a good'un...

Thanks for the reply JMo but I had tried that site already and it seems the largest size they do is an M12 and the thread needed is M16. It seems most companies ranges stop at M12 or they dont have the right thread pitch if they have M16 !

Well another other option is to just get the regular expanding bar inserts (that come with those, and most other hand guards) and use those... that's what I did with mine when I first fitted those guards to the stock bars...

That may be an option for me if I cant get a screw in type but I would like the option of a quick change threaded variety then I can swap back to the weights if im going on a long motorway stint.

guys another question on this ,

just passed the local dealer (also ktm dealer) as I want other handguards , the oem onces are really crap ...

anyway, they only had oranges onces so I'm waiting to get black onces coming in ... , w e hold them next to the bar on my ten, left side no problem , but right ?? seems the thing with the brake oil inside is a little bit in the way ?
of does that all come out fine with the different brackets deliverd with the guards ...

another thing , can they take some beating ?
I mean suppose they won't brake after a fall , otherwise I'll be getting acerbis onces ...

You'll need to dremel/cut+file a bit away to clear the front brake reservoir.

As for taking a beating my bike has been dropped a bit offroad with them on and they have been wonderful. They flex so they can take quite a beating, even managed to snap the ball off the end of my clutch lever and they were fine (and the clutch lever when filed down is actually better imo)

They need a little tweak around the brake side and the clutch lever fouls the guard slightly on the inside but I can say they are fine and recommend them. Dont know about crash worthyness but I guess they should be fine.

just got mine from the shop and I'm trying them , but I'm quite confused here ,
ok the cut out part for the brake fluid extension tube and the reservoir i get , but there is not enough room to place the actual guard clamp in between the midle horizontal bar attachment on the handlebar and the brake reserveroir ...

did you cut of as well some mm (almost a cm!!) from the end of the guard (where it needs to get attached to the bar ?)


another thing , when you remove the oem guard , the weight is stuck inside the bracket , can you get it out ? or do I have to buy new onces ...

and then there is still the fitting inside the handlebar ... , I wanna leave that as it is I think,

djeezes , planning to buy a magura bar but if this is already diffucult .... , a bar replacemnt might be worse :)
