At least with the Tenere if one ballast or bulb goes you have the other unlike my GS which had one H4 type so if it fails no lights!.... I always ran aux spots as well for back up.

I had this problem with my XTR the other day, all of a sudden, ohh whats that all the light just dissappeared!!!! Sh*t my bulb blew, luckly i had my two spot lights to get me home, wasnt the best light but at least i got home.:sunny:

If you carry a standard halogen bulb (and a torch!), you also have the option of disconnecting the HID harness and refitting the halogen bulb.
