Except the pricing is comparable in France (who have higher bike prices than here), where the original leak occurred, and was a full spec S10. I would expect the prices over here to be similar to how a GS is priced over here, so more around the 10k mark... We shall see.

I think there are a number of factors that will dictate the price of the new Super Tenere (when it ever sees the light of day)...

Primarily what each market will stand - as I recall, when the 660Z was launched here at 4899 otr, the Europeans were paying over 6000 (it may have been more)... now I know in 2008 we had the exchange rate slightly more in a favour, but that was still around 20% more than we paid in the UK market... and look how the Australians are being spanked for the 660Z - they pay $14-15,000 AUD (that's 7,900-8,500), and correspondingly more for a BMW too...

Out of interest, how much does Europe pay for a 1200GSA on the road? That ought to give some indication of the final price for the new Super Tenere in Europe - and likewise, around the UK price of the GSA what it will cost here in the UK... if it is more than 11,000 it will bomb, just like the their other 'niche' bikes: the Road Star Warrior, V-Max, MT-01 etc etc.

Yamaha have a habit of over pricing some of their new models then dropping the price once they dont sell. IMO for it needs to be way less than the GS/GSA(market leader in this sector). Deserved or not BMW is considered a premium brand in a way Yamaha is not and people expect to pay for a BMW or less for a Yamaha.

I had the TDM, and is a great bike, but its 225kg. I would think that for trail work a 660 is already big enough physically, in terms of weight, as well as power (although more of that can be fun too).

TDM is great for touring, very flat torque curve...but too big for the trail. (As I think the GS is.)

I agree - and they need to pitch the Super Tenere low (like they did with the 660Z, which, it turns out, they could have sold for a grand more, which they are doing now!) if they are going to seriously get people to look, let alone buy a Super Ten compared to a GSA... It worked with the 660Z - it was sufficently cheap enough for people to consider against the BMW 650/800... and when people actually rode it, most thought it wasn't worth spending the extra 1500-2000 for that 'sort' of bike...?

Maybe we should run a book - for what it's worth, I reckon sub 1000cc (99* something), and sub 10,000 (I'd say under 9,000, but with all the electronics they're talking about) I reckon 9899 is the right sort of money...

What says y'all?

Personally I'd like to see it pitched against the GS800. Keep it simple and light stick a modern tdm900 engine in an XTZ660Z sized frame all for 7k and bobs a close friend of your mother. Having run a 1200GS its great for two up road touring and I know some of the off road gods can fling them around but lighter is better IMO. I fear we're going to get an overpriced overweight Vstrom instead of a Tenere with bigger balls
