Thnks for all the above info guys, easy to follow - did mine today, only problem I had was pushing the sprocket back into place to clear the swingarm. Several strategically placed cable ties to hold the sprocket tightly in place against the newly installed tyre rubber did the trick....& remembered to cut them away after all was done !

Great pictures and info. :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:

Thanks for the pics.
One of the easiest fixes i've had to do on a bike... although showed me a TONNE more dirt that i had to clean. |
How are peeps finding the longivity of this mod?
I fitted new tyres (siracs again) at the week end, and my high kwalitee pond liner was shot. I re-did a mod, but using 1mm aluminium sheet to make shims to insert between the original rubbers and the webs. Nice and tight, slipped in easily, and seems to be working a treat! |
good idea I struggled to get mine back in as well.
Must check the mod now as its been done a while

I've got a 2009 Tenere and it has done 6000kms and I've got sloppy rubbers !!! and metal to metal contact on the central area around the hub bearing casting. Yam in NZ are scratching their heads. I'll be trying the mod as soon as I get my wheel back. Thanks for the informative instructions. Good on XT660.com.
PS - a little rubber specific grease (if you have any) will help the rubbers go back together as an alternative to talc cheers |
Cush Drive packing out with inner tube rubber
Just thought I'd update the progress of the Tenere inner tube mod for the cush drive rubbers.......
After 1000+ miles of riding with the inner tube bits packing out the cush drive, they melted and leaked out of the sprocket hub and all over the tyre etc. Could have been something to do with the 110deg heat in Death Valley or could be not. Don't reckon the inner tubes area a long term fix - just keep badgering Mr Yamaha for new rubbers and maybe they will upgrade the material spec when enough people complain. have fun |
Yours would be the only one that I know of that has failed so quickly.
I would recommend you to use motorcycle tubing not bicycle tubing, just make sure it is packed in tightly. My 04 XTX did 20K kms on the same inner tube rubbers. |
My bike is on it's third set of rubbers...
|
just checked mine still working a treat after a few thousand miles
