DIY Stage 3?
I've noticed just now, that theres a few XTX air boxes on ebay (UK) going for silly money, 40 ish.
Now, with the help of a dremel, filters and whatever else needed, could there be a possibility for a DIY Stage 3? |
good luck

Hoho!!
Don't... I've got to get myself a Stage 1... but seeing them like that, for the 40 for the stage 1, I could get myself that airbox and cut it up and open it right up!! Not just drill holes but actually open the airbox right up, very much like the stage 3... Even with the standard original paper filter, that'd still be a huge increase in airflow. With a stage 1 cheapy K&N filter, would mean that it could be left open... Gah... the engineer in me wants to do it soooooo badly!! But my bank is saying otherwise... despite the nice lump I just got :pjrlaugh_61OD3G: |

Best looking at getting hold of these too, as you might not know what damage can be done by modifying an airbox without a safe enclosure... when in doubt, "Ask Kev" I am not a mechanic

haha!
Well, essentially, by opening up the standard airbox, cutting the sides off appropriately, fitting 12mm breathers to crankcase hoses, you are just allowing more airflow to the intake and stopping the restriction created by the stock airbox. Also, with having my autotune, it should make up the difference for the extra airflow... EDIT: Can anyone confirm what size the breathers are on the Stage 3? Are they 12mm? I guess the best way is to just check the hoses on mine... DuH! |
