i suppose you could make your own stage 3 filter by gutting a standard airbox the only problems would be finding the correct size main cone filter and link pipe and making sure the airflow is not obstructed from getting into airbox
i find leaving things like this to the experts is the best bet you could spend weeks building one spend a few hundred quid and then find it is no better

Well, there are hundreds of thousands of filters and flexible hoses available on ebay, most of them come with dimensions.

With a bit of elbow grease and some hot glue, im sure something could be fabbed up for little price.

It's a project anyway...

its not hard to make i think

dazmatic 28-11-09 15:18

That looks very similar to what I want to do. Thing is, with a dremel, you can do anything :icon_albino:

Steve_athens 28-11-09 15:28

Thats right:icon_queen:the only thing missing is the dimention of the filter(i think maybe a little bigger than this of the foto may fit better) and the dimentions of the link pipe, also i think that side plastics of the airbox should have big holes to have maximum possible air

dazmatic 28-11-09 15:37

Well, all you really need is the Outside diameter of the throttle body intake, a link pipe with the same ID, a conical filter with the outlet OD being the same, and adjust the cut out of the airbox to suit.

Obviously have some sort of measurements there so that you know roughly how much to cut out, but its all certainly possible, and for a reasonable price too looking at the amount of "Universal" induction kits and filters on ebay.

EDIT:

Bosh! Straight from the homepage...

A bit of info for the technically minded

DNA stage 3 Filter size, 110mm long, 380mm circumference tapering to 300mm circumference. ID of filters outlet is 74mm tapering to 49mm at the throttle body. The intake pipe has been lengthened from 80mm to 160mm.

Well, essentially, by opening up the standard airbox, cutting the sides off appropriately, fitting 12mm breathers to crankcase hoses, you are just allowing more airflow to the intake and stopping the restriction created by the stock airbox.

Also, with having my autotune, it should make up the difference for the extra airflow...

EDIT:

Can anyone confirm what size the breathers are on the Stage 3? Are they 12mm?

I guess the best way is to just check the hoses on mine... DuH!

The size is 14mm and you need 3.

Cheers,

Dino

Aw, cheers Dino!

I'll look into it.

Had my airbox turn up a couple of days ago!

However, with my current situation, I'm not going to have time to do anything with it just yet :(

How did this go? I am thinking to do the same thing .... Like the idea of getting rid of as much of that ****e plastic as possible :-).

Ps agreed re Dremel :-).
