What a nightmare mate sorry to hear of all your trouble, bugs me big time when you buy something off a global company and they mess you about, to them it would cost nothing and give them great PR if they looked after anyone buying their products and had a problem, next bike you buy will it be a Yam?

well, definitely not a yamaha in ireland believe me ^^

hi zou, jasus your not getting much satisfaction with either dealers, have you tried the yamaha importer direct [ http://www.yamaha-motor.co.uk/corpor.../yamaha_uk.jsp ] years ago i worked in a renault dealership, if a customer felt we were not dealing with the problem to their satisfaction a letter sent to the importer in swindon usually put the wind up us! many an engine / gearbox replacement rather than repair happened by using this direct approach

i know your problems are not helped by being in a different region but why should that be. a warranty should be honoured without jurisdiction. would a visit to a dealer in the north be any use? hursts seem ok to deal with, fancy a run up? i dont mind the spin

I had ordered the OEM Engine guard halfway November from my dealer. Was on backorder at the time and would be sent out to the dealer halfway December.
Come that time I got a call from the dealer that they were still on backorder with Yamaha Belgium. The Delivery time they advertised was beginning of January.
Got another call from the dealer last Tuesday: Yamaha will not send out any OEM engine guards any more because of "technical issues". It will take at least 3 more months for a replacement part to become available.

I was a short call, so I don't have any further details, but I'm speaking to him again next week on the motor show in Brussels to try and get some more info.

I'll probably just go for an after market model...

I'm actually dealing directly with the irish importer as dealer don't want to handle warranty claim.

I finally have my new sidecase (one with the new lock) so I've a old and a new model.
But I lost all the nice stickers in the exchange :p

I asked to be given back the engine guards as they're unable to get them and a fellow biker offered to weld them for me ;)

I'm also in touch with someone here to get a new model 2nd hand when he will get his new part.

so all is nearly well in the end.

I talked to the importer about a service bulletin for the sidecase lock and he said he didn't get any... but as it took them 3 month to get me replacement sidecase I'm not going to leave the 2nd one with him :)

But I'd fancy a spin up north anytime without any specific reason, i could still claim that I'm going to Hein Gericke or Crossans :p

Just had my locks on my panniers replaced at the local dealers after both of the keys snapped in both boxes within a week of each other.
Riding down the motorway at 70mph, heard a loud clanging noise, looked down to see that the engine bar had snapped in the middle and was dragging along the road still attached to the bike at the side of engine mounting point :118:.
Yamaha have refused to cover this under warranty as I bought the bike second hand and don't have the receipt for the bar, cannot prove how old the part is and as the bike is now 18 months old, the bar may be the same age and is only guaranteed for 12 months!
Been in touch with Yamaha customer service and after refusing to take no for an answer was asked to write an email detailing my concerns about the bike. Where to start:
1) pannier locks have failed leaving me with my stuff stuck in them making me late for work, boss was really happy!
2) Engine bar collapsed on motorway, but I lived to tell the tale.
3) Ignition jamming, will be changed under warranty, new barrel and ECU.
4) Spokes on front wheel rusting if see water!
5) Despite little niggles still a great bike!!!!

OMG !!!

could they be welded back ?

I have a set you could have for good price if you want, theyre just back from the welder as they cracked.

I tappears that the new version is quite hard to get.. but there's still the aftermeerkat...err.. market

Jeasus!

Do you have any pictures?

onyerbike 09-02-10 21:47

sorry no pictures, the engine bars were taken off in my local dealers, he thought it would be a case of ordering in a new crashbar and sending the old damaged item back to Yamaha Japan for inspection, not the case, I am still waiting to hear back from Yamaha customer services to tell me if they will pay for the new bar.
Will let you know the outcome.
