Sat Nav
I've just ordered mine and not sure where it's gonna go. I've read that most people put theirs on the left hand side on the handle bars. Any chance someone could post some pics?

I went for the Garmin Zumo 550.
I've noticed that there isn't alot of space on the left hand side of the bars and there is a wire covering what space there is. I'm just hoping that the clamp is small in width. I've got a TomTom One for my cage. It'll be no good on the bike and to be honest it's so slow since I've added all the speed cameras and not waterproof. It's ok for a starter but lacks processing power. The other problem I have with my TomTom is I have a heat shield windscreen which make reception a bit slow. This Garmin I'm getting will be purely for the bike. I'm just hoping it's the dogs danglies as it aint cheep but hopefully a worthwhile investment. Cheers for the pic Guv. |

For a cheaper option look for the Garmin Quest. I have been using mine for 2 or 3 years now and it works fine, it wont take POI's though.
I used it for a trip I did to the Netherlands over the late May bank holiday and when a road it told me to use was closed, it found an alternitive route. Quite intresting it was to, one of teh roads (read tracks) was a dirt rad, with lots of potholes, trning into deepish sand. Not to bad except that I was riding my 1500 goldwing with 3 other goldwings following, all 2 up ! Gave some of the locals who saw us going down the begining of teh track a good laugh though Keith |

I decided to go for the Garmin Zumo 550. I ordered it from Pixmania.com with their 2-3 day delivery service. It turned up in the end, 2 weeks from when I ordered it. Humph!!!
Fitted it last night and went for a ride. It's excellent. Speed cameras are all pre loaded and very easy to use. One problem I have is on the way to work I lost the security screw that prevents it from falling off. So much for a security screw. Ha!! That was the main reason I got it instead of a TomTom. I called Garmin and they said they don't have any in stock and are waiting for delivery. The chap said he would add me to the waiting list. "So other people have lost theirs" I said. "Yes" said the CS rep. I asked if it was a common problem and the rep said not really. "Why the waiting list" I said. He said that lost of bikers are just bringing their bikes out of their sheds after the winter and have noticed their security screws are missing. "What! So they just jumped off then" I said. Hopefully I'm getting a call back from their technical department tomorrow. Not happy as this cost me an arm and a leg and the dam thing is now secured with elastic bands. I think 90 minutes of riding with the Garmin and to have the main security feature fall off is a bit of a design fault. |

I have the Garmin Nuvi, I mounted it with a 'RAM' mount that I ordered from the States. This allows it to twist and pivot and it now sits at the front of the handlebar, left hand side, kinda 'below' the bar so that it doesnt obscure the clocks. It has a snap in fitting that hold the Nuvi tight and works superbly. - Steve

Mine came with the snap to fit base. Problem is if I hit a pot hole or a speed bump it'll snap to open. Then it's bye bye Garmin. Not had a call back from Garmin yet about the security screw.

Very disappointing for a company like Garmin, all their previous models of Sat Nav's used to come with a key locked bracket in stainless steel. They were the pioneers of motorbike satellite navigations a few years ago.

You are lucky you arent waiting for a part from Tom Tom, you would still be trying to get thru on the phone! If the Zumo was not so expensive I would buy one and bin my TT, based on their crap customer services and crap mounting.
