Nikroc I've order a 14mm hex socket as couldn't get one locally, hopefully here in a day or two. Sounds like it could be fun getting the spindle out. Still anticlockwise, it's not reverse threaded or anything daft?

What's people's thoughts on this, is there something missing, seems like a rather large gap? This is the left side of the wheel as you sit on the bike

After this picture... I would be tempted to change the bearings . Maybe they are still OK. At least, change the seals. Put some grease inside and on the seal lips to prevent rust and ensure better sealing against ingress of water or whatever.

Are you missing the top hat spacer?..

There was 2 spacers that came off with the axel, 1 either side

in that case its 'normal' assuming the spacer was fitted correctly id change them and pack with grease.

There is certainly a space behind the seal on the left side that isn't on the right hand side,

for some reason i'm unable to post a picture/diagram that shows the genuine setup..i simply googled xt660 wheel and searched..sorry i cant be more helpfull

I've had a look at it on the fowlers website and I think it's all there, I'll know better when I put it back together in a few weeks
