Exhaust gaskets

Hi, I just bought some exhaust gaskets for my slip on pipes as they didnt have any but they seem too fat for the slip ons to fit over them. Am I supposed to crush them when I put the slip ons back on?

I have just helped my mate fit aftermarket exhausts on his R..We tried to use exhaust paste/gasket....no go,just wouldnt seat properly.

Eventualy just dry fitted them and tightened the supplied clamps in place..jd. No leaks either!

Mine have been dry fitted since I bought the bike, just seen on the pipe manufacturers website they are supposed to be fitted with gaskets so I ordered some. The pipes do fit very snug on the headers although there are some small gas leaks there certainly isnt enough space for the 4mm thick gaskets!

If they are the correct/recommended gaskets supplied by the exhaust people then ask them. How big is the gap?

Not very big at all it almost seals with just the clamp, less than a millimetre. The exhaust manufacturer recommends the OEM gaskets which is what I have purchased.

TBH I just cant see how your going to use the gaskets you have bought..I would personally use some exhaust paste and resell the gaskets or try and send them back..co-incidently the place you bought them from id ten minutes from me..never knew they existed.

Wow that's a coincidence! Yea I can send them back no problem feel a bit bad doing so though as the seller had to pay to send them to me. I emailed pipewerx hopefully they can shed some light for me, may be as you said I just need to use some paste.

I once used a similar gasket when fitting the exhaust to a xtz660 and it also was a little bit to big. Used a hammer to get the endcan on the rest of the exhaustsystem. The gasket crushed a little bit but no leakage.
