Glad to be on the bike. ..

Had a day off today and went on to see a friend in Shoreham. As it was bloomin cold and I am a southern softie. ...and I work outdoors in all weather I took the four wheeled option. But a mile down the road I thought what the hell am I doing. .? .I headed back, got my gear on set off along the coast in glorious sunshine. I stopped on the seafront in Shoreham and got talking to an elderly chap called Ken. He had come down to the seafront for the Armistice day silence to remember his 'old pals 'as he called them. We were talking away and nearly missed the 11 o'clock. We stood looking out to sea for the silence and afterwards Ken told me about his war and about waiting on the beach at Dunkirk, incredible stuff. I felt incredibly fortunate to have met Ken, but when I told him this he just shook my hand and said 'ride carefully on that bloody bike '! Steve

I was in a very similar reflective mood at 11am. I have been working just outside the RAF Brize Norton gate and was thinking about the service men who still leave and arrive daily through these gates, on their way to various troubled parts of the world. Somethings don't change that much. Our freedom and privileges came at a very high price, lest we never forget this.
