XTZ Panniers Bulletin

The locks on my panniers where very stiff and the latch didnt work properly. I returned them to my local Yam dealer and Yamaha gave me a new pair. Whilst I was there the service manager told me he had recieved a bulletin today saying that anyone with the same issues that Yamaha have upgraded the locks and will change them.

That is very good news Mike Wright, I have made this thread into a "sticky" and moved it to the Tenere pannier section so other with similar problem can be made aware.

Thanks

I hope its useful for people. I had no problems or issues when they gave me a new set. It took approx 1 week for the new ones to arrive. I wasnt allowed to keep the old ones but did ask

I can confirm that they only replace the locks and keys now if your suffering bent keys due to stiff locks. Mine are on order at the local shop.

One side effect is that it appears that the original key blanks are no longer available with yamaha and dont seem to be in ready supply at local locksmiths. So if you lose a made of cheese key and simply want to replace it, your likely to require new locks as well as the blanks.
The new spec keys have the same groove profile (if thats what locksmiths call it) but have a thicker shank (?) and thus wont fit into the original locks designed for the slimmer keys.
My advice is if you think yours are ok but have the long slim keys, get them swapped now as you could be caught short trying to get new keys cut at future date.

Great news, just found this thread before I shelled out for a new set of locks.
I snapped both of my keys in the last week before I got a chance to find a repair.
cheers Mike

I would still push for brand new panniers even though its just the locks. Yamaha know of the issue and my dealer had a bulletin to say to replace them so I ended up with brand new panniers.

Had new pannier locks fitted under warranty the other day, tried to push the dealer into giving me a new set of panniers but no luck.
Now trying to get Yamaha to replace the engine bars under warranty as that snapped in the middle and fell off going down the motorway.

any chance of getting a copy/reference for the service bulletin as the irish Importer denies its existence ?

The bulletin was what my dealer told me he had been sent but I never saw it Im afraid. Ive not had any problems with my dealer Bridge Garage in Exeter who have done everything without quibble.
