I've a stage 2 on the way to go on my stock XTR with only a stage 1 filter fitted.

I was just wondering if there was any tips people could offer?

I trail ride the bike so was thinking to carry some gaffer tape for river crossings. and obviously more cleaning from the dirt.

Also I have a PC5 fitted already and just running the basic map, is there any need to change the map or will the bike be happy using the normal preinstalled map?

I also expect I will need to adjust the idle after fitting too.

Is there anything else I need to consider?

You really need to get hold of another map to match the increased air flow.

I run a DNA Stage 3 cover on my Tenere (which is similar design side cover filter to the X/R's Stage 2) and it has never been any trouble in the wet. Maybe deep wading might need some additional protection, but generally it won't be an issue if you keep it properly oiled and make very sure that the mating surface is clean and greased up when you fit it.

Well I've had a test ride and I've still concern with deep water crossings. But apart from that I really love it, the XTR can now pull much harder anywhere in the rev range and just has so much more get up and go. Certainly how the bike should have been out the factory.

If you're worried about the water then why not fit a map switch to your PCV and load two maps; one for stage 1 filter and one for the stage 2. If you know you're going somewhere where you are likely to hit deep water then you can fit the stock cover, which doesn't take that long, before you go out. Or maybe even get a blank stainless cover made up (like the ones aliwakeskate makes but without the holes) which you can quickly screw over the top of the stage 2 cover? Flick of a switch and you'll be running the correct map.

I removed mine when I noticed dust in the air box...
now use oiled foam...

Who does foam filters apart from OTR? Seems costly getting the cage 2x foams and the modified air box cover.
