Pirelli MT60's

Finished fitting some Pirelli MT60's this afternoon. I've got a mainly road ride in April with a group so held off from the intended TKC 80's for the time being. It was my first experience at fitting a motorcycle tyre & thought it would be best to try at home first before learning the hard way out & about. So armed with some tyre levers, talcum powder & some off cuts of bicycle tyres for rim protectors I had a crack. I did struggle a bit, mainly with the last quarter of the tyre to pop it over the rim. But then realized that the rest of the tyre was sitting in the bead rather than the deeper part of the rim where the spoke nipples are to release some unnecessary tension. Not the easiest job in the world but got there in the end. A bit more practice is all that's needed.
I expect they will be similar to Golden tyre's as jo75 fitted. Pirelli say they are for on/off road, so long as they cope with gravel & dirt roads that's about all I need for now. Snakeboy reported getting over 12000k's on these so will hopefully last a while. Also looking forward to going around corners properly after being on those Tourances.
Just hope I don't get a flat & have to get the tyre levers out again !!

My Pirelli MT90 on the back has now done a few thousand km which included 3 off road trips and I've been very impressed with them. And my MT90 looks less aggressive than your MT60's. I have a lot of faith in Pirelli tyres so far.
You should get good results from them

Hi Desert Racer , that looks like a tyre that suits the Tenere...and I hear good things about them . Admire you for fitting them...you must have protected the rims as they look unmarked!. It's something I must do as I'd hate to be away from home and too pathetic to change a tube. Steve

I'm really impressed with these, haven't been let down pushing hard on my xtx in the bends on tar so they shouldn't be a limit on full size rims. They need some deflation to feel comfortable on gravel. I doubt i'll get more than 3/4ooo K's from them is the only downside.

Hey desert racer, they look very similar to the gt201 , probably handle in the same way too, I love them, got a ride to Wales in July planned so will be putting them back on !!.. Don't fancy the m4 on the knobblys I have just had put on!( I skipped putting them on myself this time..otherwise I would be in trouble from dr.steve!..)..

Thanks fellas, but I must confess I did put a couple of small nicks in the front rim but are more or less covered by the tyre anyway. After all it is an off road bike so will get a few marks on it here & there eventually. The bicycle tyre off cuts did work well but are only good for one tyre change.
I have put about 40k's on them now & wow what a difference. I suppose the best way to sum them up is its as if someone has taken the training wheels off compared to the original Tourances. The bike actually goes to the point where you are looking and much more sure footed with no squirming. Even on a 180 degree bend with 6 railway lines running across didn't perturb them. So far so good !!

That's the thing with the Tourance...people may find them'ok'...but when you change to a better tyre you suddenly realise how unsuited to the Tenere the Tourance are....and what great improvements in direction , sure footedness etc you get from a better tyre. Steve

You feel like Casey Stoner or his competetors - but just on a Tenere ? Thats what I did with the MT60.... Coming from Heidenau K60 Scout to Pirelli MT60 was like going from an old Massey Ferguson tractor to a Maserati sportscar.

Actually I got 15500 kms out of them. But mind you it was not in Australia. I am in Australia for the moment and here I have worn out two sets of tyres and getting only 8-9 k kms out of each set. Sava and Shinko.

I guess you fitted the normal mt60. I had the mt60 r corsa on my xtx and let me say just WOW...
nothing compared to how sticky the tyres were. Absolutely amazing.
But the corsa indeed lasts few km and it's worth only if you have a xtx and do serious riding in the twisty roads as they are also higher in price.
