The standard Yuasa is as good as any as
you said yer got 6 years out of it.....

I have a Motobatt MBT9B4 in mine...

theres alot of hi tec light weight stuff
around now... but a old XT don't really
benifit from them in most cases...

just don't buy a cheap batt.....

My OE Yuasa battery is finally starting to feel a little strained starting the bike now the weather has got colder. It is just over seven years old, which I reckon by anyone's standards is a good innings for a battery.

Based on how long the Yuasa has lasted and that I'm a strong believer sticking with the devil you know, rather than the devil you don't, it'll be Yuasa again. Yes, there are fancy lithium alternatives out there that'll save a few hundred grams, but they cost a lot more, are an unknown quantity regarding longevity and I can save the same weight for free by putting 22L litres in the tank rather than 23, or taking a dump before I ride!

knowing that bike batteries are as expensive as car bats for a fraction of, power, this is what I have done.

charge the battery and take it to a bat shop with test kit and do a CCA check. If the result is more than 20% of the original bat spec, then it is time for a new one.

If the test if good (<10%) then check your charging system.

before you jump on the lithium iron bat band wagon and pay x2~x3 the regular money, do your research: charging of these is different to led acid batteries. Chances are you bike charging system is not optimised for lithium bats!!

lets us know how it ends

Hi, being into electric powered radio controlled aeroplanes, I can tell you that the lithium chemistry is not one of longevity, you're much better off with lead acid, and as was suggested you need a different charger, not to mention checking if the charging system on your bike will accommodate it (it's possible that the batteries have circuits on them to prevent overcharging).
Stick with the tried and tested, and if you can, get an optimiser, I've never had a dull moment since I statrted using one, and I'm led to believe they condition the battery too.
