my xtr 12v socket mod

I thought this project would be a simple affair by simply bolting on the socket and wiring it up. When I got to the shed yesterday I discovered that this wouldn't be the case due to lack of space on the bars!

This is the socket I bought

Cheap and cheerful from eBay

I also used one of these

With the help of a Dremel I cut it down to a more suitable shape and drilled holes for it to mount the socket

Thn mounted it to the fork clamp. I utilised the top bolt and used a m5 bolt into the other bolt hole that is conveniently placed there

Once all bolted up it looks nearly stock and is also discretely placed and quite well protected from the elements

Powered from the side light circuit via a relay, job done

Hope this helps someone wanting to do the same

Well done Paul - a very professional looking finished installation. More work than simply fitting it to the bars but ultimately a much better/neater solution in the end.

I did think of making it black, maybe when I have another tinkering session I may do that...
