The fans of the Z are made by Spal. They are a standard 125mm pull fan. There are lots available on ebay for about a quarter of the Yamaha price. However, the question is finding one that has the right cowling mounting points for the Z's radiator, most have four point fixing.

You could strip and use the motor off an ebay one and fit to the existing cowling, or perhaps make a more common 4 point fixing version fit without to much hassle.

Here's an example of a 100mm one that came up in a quick web search: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SPAL-4-Paddl...30df75&vxp=mtr

Anyway, have a search around for Spal fans (used and new) in Australia. I'm sure you'll turn up something...

Mine hardly ever comes on, even in on the rare occasions the British summer gets into the mid-twenties. It only cuts in when riding in heavy traffic, or on a long slow stretch of off-road riding.

I'd say you'd be OK provided you're not riding in stop start traffic. Out on the open road the air flow through the radiator will be more than enough to keep things cool. Keep an eye on the warning light and pull over immediately should it come on.
