Side Stand

Just had my XT660z Tenere lowered by 25mm using links but now find the bike too upright on the side stand could anyone help with the answer to leaning it over more i presume its a case of cutting and re-welding the stand but are there any other ways to get round this?

Many thanks Nick

Firstly welcome on board Nick!

Your right, the best way to get the bike to lean at a "safer" angle is to cut a bit of length out of the stand. Just be mindful that you don't need to cut off as much as you might think!

If you cut the standard foot off (plus a little bit of the tube) to shorten it, you can weld on a slightly bigger foot while you're at it. It will make the bike much more stable on soft ground and save you buying a Camel Toe type extension at a later date.

Read this thread for some inspiration.

Side Stand

Many thanks for the reply when saying don't cut too much off I have had the bike lowered by 25mm so do I need to cut the same amount off the stand? Must admit I did not think but only lowering such a small amount would make so much difference to the lean angle good job I never went 40mm which was another choice.

Due to the angles involved you want to be removing no more than half of the distance the bike was lowered, so you're looking at 10-12.5mm roughly.

Best thing to do is (with a mate helping you support the bike), take the bike off the side stand and use a piece of wood propped under the side stand pivot. Cut the wood down in stages until you get the desired angle of lean. When you find what you want measure the length of wood from it's base to the centre of the side stand mounting bolt. This will give you an approximation of the overall side stand length required.
