Is the reserve really that big??
Ok so I have been riding my 05 XTX for a couple weeks now and have fulled up a few times when the fuel light comes on.
Commuting or open road I am hardly gentle but am still getting 155 - 160km before the fuel light comes on. So I diligently go and full up and find I am only putting in 8.2 - 8.5L of gas. Economy wise this is damn good compared to the R1 but after a quick search it seems I have a 15L tank!!!! does that mean I still have roughly another 120km before I am seriously running on fumes?? Just wondering how far I can push the "fuel trip" length if I need to. |

Good question and yes, there should be a total of 15L in the tank so that means generally 10L to reserve and then another 5L left. My reserve light usually comes on at about 190 km and I get about 9 to 10L in but note that I have never tried more than about 20km with the light on so dunno if it is really another 5L. Any other comments????

Can't find anything about adjusting the sensor electrically so might go through a couple more tanks and then look at where the sensor is positioned. |

Based on my observation of my 05' X I consistently get 9.5 litres burnt before the reserve light and I tend to use at least another 3 before I fill up. On a couple of occasions I have seen 13.5 litres go in.
Based on my riding style and state of tune this kind of equals 190 km to reserve and 260 km before I want to fill up even allowing for a half litre of unburnable fuel at the bottom I think my bike would do 300 km if by my poor planning I had not filled up earlier. A word on the reserve light. When you are past 8 or 9 litres (or so) used and going up or down an incline for a period it can cause the sensor to trigger the reserve light, if you then hit the flat and the light goes out and you then run 5 km with out triggering the sensor again your F-TRIP on the dash will reset. Likewise if you filled up and did not clear the F-TRIP as you ride down the road it will reset and revert to odometer after 5 km. Regards Marcus |

On my 2011 Tenere the reserve is huge. The manual has it at 6.7 litres (a whole UK gallon and a half!) which makes the main tank 16.3 (giving a combined total of 23 litres).
My experience is the gauge starts flashing at the right time giving you potentially 100 miles of reserve. When Ive filled it up shortly after it zerod I only managed to get in 17 litres.
