Tenere blowing fuses
Hi. I washed my bike yesterday and now it's blowing the fuse number five (fuel injection?). So I guess it's short circuiting in one of the connectors due to water but which one? I'm feeling a little bit lazy here so if anyone's had a similar problem with washing and blowing fuses, please give me a tip where to look first. Don't wish to dissassemble the whole bike here in Spain.

First place I'd look is at the main loom that runs along the right hand top frame rail under the tank. It probably means you'll have to take the tank off to do a proper visual check though.
It is a known issue for the loom to rub through on the frame rail, and more often than not it is the wiring to the fuel pump and injector that takes the biggest hit. It might not have been abraded enough to cause a short on its own, but a good soaking could quite easily have bridge an exposed core to earth. |

Sounds a good theory, thanks Pleiades. I wasn't aware of the loom issue or then I've forgotten it. Tomorrow I'll get the bike to a friend's workshop and start checking out from that main loom first.

I took off the tank today and most likely found the reason: the connectors inside the rubber cover on the right side of the frame were quite wet and couldn't dry because of the cover. Haven't tested yet though.
I've also got an issue with oil consumption, although I rebuilt the engine 6000 km ago and now I'm thinking whether to take off the cylinder at my friend's workshop to see what's going on or not. Lhetetty minun GT-N7100 laitteesta Tapatalkilla |
